Nightlife at Koh Samet: A Real Experience from mr.hotsia
I, mr.hotsia, have had the chance to visit Koh Samet, Rayong Province, many times, and this latest trip still impressed me with the charm of this small island. Interestingly, Koh Samet is not only great during the day for swimming and sunbathing, but the nightlife here is equally vibrant.
I remember walking past the wooden bridge by the beach, which seems built especially for photo opportunities. This bridge has become a landmark where many tourists pose before heading to various beaches on Koh Samet. I enjoy the evening atmosphere here with the cool sea breeze and the sunset reflecting on the water, making photos as beautiful as anywhere else.
For those asking me, “Where to stay, what to eat, and where to go on Koh Samet,” I can say there isn’t much difference between the beaches. Sai Kaew Beach is the most popular because it’s convenient to reach and offers a variety of accommodations for different budgets. Next are Ao Wong Duean, Ao Thian, Ao Lung Dam, and Ao Wai, each with similar lodging and dining options. I once stayed at Ao Phai, not far from Sai Kaew Beach. There’s a small road separating the accommodations from the sea, giving a feeling of staying in a mangrove forest rather than a beachfront resort like the Maldives where you step right onto the beach.
At night, Koh Samet comes alive immediately. Many beaches have restaurants open along with exciting fire-spinning performances. I enjoy sipping a cold drink while watching the fire shows. The atmosphere is very chill, with both tourists and locals gathering to create simple and friendly fun.
Food here offers a wide variety, from affordable beachside eateries to full-service restaurants in accommodations. I’ve heard great things about "Jeab Bungalow" for delicious food, and many recommend trying it. However, I usually choose to eat at my lodging for convenience and to avoid walking far. After dining and enjoying the fire show, I return to my room for a comfortable sleep, ready for the next day’s adventures.
Transportation and Accommodation Choices on Koh Samet
Getting around Koh Samet is very easy. Green songthaews (shared taxis) serve all main beaches at affordable prices, starting from just 10 baht for short distances up to 60 baht for longer trips. I once took a ride from Sai Kaew Beach to Ao Wong Duean; it was quick and very convenient. The songthaew parking is located in front of the 7-Eleven store, which is very convenient for tourists traveling around the island.
Accommodations on Koh Samet range from resorts to budget bungalows, from Sai Kaew Beach, popular with young people and vacationers, to the quieter Ao Phai and Ao Wong Duean. I recommend booking in advance during festivals or long holidays for peace of mind, but outside those times, you can still find places by walking around.
Connecting with Local Life and Nearby Attractions in Rayong
Koh Samet is part of Rayong Province, which offers a variety of attractions. If you have time, I suggest visitingWat Lum Rayong Marketa fresh seafood market with very fresh fish and plenty of local desserts to try, or exploring the atmosphere ofOld Wat Lum Marketwhich preserves old houses and local culture well. Visiting these markets will help you better understand the lifestyle of Rayong people and add depth to your Koh Samet trip.
I, mr.hotsia, recommend that if you plan to visit Rayong and Koh Samet, don’t forget to allow time to explore both the island and Rayong city to experience a complete trip with nature, food, and interesting culture.Read more about Rayong here
