This place holds the charm of a local lifestyle that remains truly simple and warm. On my latest visit, I didn’t just pass through but intentionally stopped to pay respect to the great Buddha statue “Phra Phuttha Rattanamunee Sri Det Udom” standing tall in the center of Det Udom town. It is a magnificent golden Buddha with a 25-meter wide lap and 45 meters tall, so grand that I had to stop and admire it for good luck before continuing my journey.

After paying respects to the great Buddha, I drove around to enjoy the atmosphere in Det Udom town. The old houses still retain their classic provincial style. There are many small shops worth stopping by for a meal, but unfortunately, I was already full from elsewhere, otherwise I would have tried many tempting local dishes. I saw locals casually shopping at a small town market together, reminding me of the simple yet warm lifestyle of true Isan people.

Before heading back to Ubon Ratchathani city, I stopped by Wat Pa Wai, also located in Det Udom district. Here stands a large white Buddha statue towering against a beautifully clear blue sky. The beauty of the white Buddha contrasting with the bright sky made me want to pause time for a moment to fully absorb the peace and beauty, like recharging my spirit before continuing my journey.
