Eating Suphanburi Food suphanburi street food with Mr.Hotsia
Suphanburi, the province I, Mr.Hotsia, chose as the destination for my latest trip, not only because of its historical heritage and charming temples but also because of the lively markets and street food here that made me fall in love endlessly.
After staying atKhum Suphan Hotelwhich is located in the city center with convenient travel, I decided to take a morning walk atSuphanburi Morning Marketsituated by the Tha Chin River. The atmosphere here is classic and warm. People in the market smile brightly and sell their goods energetically.
What I liked most was the aroma of food wafting through almost every corner—from grilled pig heads lined up on the tables, fresh fermented fish proudly sold by locals, to made-to-order dishes cooked fresh by vendors.
I followed the enticing scent of authentic Suphanburi stir-fried holy basil, known for its spicy and satisfying flavor, to a famous countryside curry rice shop near Banharn Tower. Here, I tasted genuine Suphanburi curry rice with its famously spicy taste, and seeing the locals crowding the shop confirmed its true deliciousness.
Another market I didn’t miss visiting was Sai Yud Market, especially when it gets lively. Fresh produce and a variety of foods are lined up for selection, including Thai desserts and savory dishes favored by Suphanburi locals. I usually choose to sample street food here because it reflects the true lifestyle and flavors of Suphanburi people.
The lifestyle and living of Suphanburi people through street food
I have always said that street food is a window into the real life of locals. Suphanburi is no different. I watched people buying food from early dawn, and vendors preparing ingredients diligently. Despite the hard work, smiles and conversations made everything feel warm and lively.
At Suphanburi Morning Market, I stopped to look at dozens of pig heads lined up. The aroma of grilled pork stimulated my appetite well. As for Suphanburi fermented fish, a famous souvenir not to be missed, I chatted briefly with locals who said that Suphanburi fermented fish has a better aroma and taste than elsewhere due to the traditional fermentation process passed down through generations.
Eating along Suphanburi’s food streets
My street food journey in Suphanburi with Mr.Hotsia was not just about eating but experiencing the true lifestyle of this city. I started with traditional Thai desserts at a small roadside shop, then moved on to spicy holy basil stir-fry at a regular vendor in Sai Yud Market.
For lunch, I chose to sit and eat curry rice at the famousBannok Spicy Curry Rice Shop Suphanburilocated not far from Banharn Tower. Many locals come here. I ordered curry rice with green curry, braised eggs, and various stir-fried vegetables. The spicy taste was so satisfying I had to recommend it.
In the evening, my friends and I went out again for street food. Here, there were grilled meatballs, pork satay, and sweet mango sticky rice, all of which made me feel the warmth of the Suphanburi community along with the unique aroma of the food.
