Nern Phisong Umphang: A destination you must experience yourself

If you love novelty and want to experience the wonder of nature in a unique way, I recommend coming toNern Phisong UmphangTak Province. This is not just an ordinary viewpoint but a “hill” where your car can roll uphill by itself without the engine running! I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to experience it myself and must say it was both strange and exciting at the same time.

Journey to Umphang: Prepare your heart for winding roads and beautiful nature

The trip from Tak city to Umphang is a route I often recommend preparing your heart for, as the road from Mae Sot to Umphang is full of sharp curves. However, the good road and scenic views on both sides make the drive enjoyable. Before reaching Nern Phisong, I stopped at the route to Palatha Waterfall, which is not far from Nern Phisong.

Along the way, I also stopped to recharge with breakfast at the hotelJ2 Mae Sotwhich offers local dishes and comfort suitable for travelers like us. Or if you want to try Tak’s specialties, I recommend tastinglocal-style stir-fried holy basilwhich is spicy and flavorful, unforgettable.

Nern Phisong: A mysterious phenomenon you must try yourself

Upon arriving atNern Phisongat kilometer 68 on the Tak-Mae Sot route, I parked my car at the start of the hill, turned off the engine, and saw with my own eyes the car slowly rolling uphill as if pulled by a mysterious force. This is not supernatural but a physical phenomenon caused by the road’s layout and slope angle creating an optical illusion.

Some call this place the “Magic Road” or “Nern Phisong Hill,” which I think is a fun stop suitable for travelers passing through Umphang. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture this amazing phenomenon.

Umphang: The beginning of adventure and pristine nature

After enjoying Nern Phisong, I usually continue traveling into Umphang district to prepare for a rafting trip toThi Lo Su Waterfallwhich is known as the largest waterfall in Thailand and one of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia.

The road to the waterfall remains challenging with many winding curves, but the fresh air and surrounding forest atmosphere make the journey not tiring. In the morning, I often stop to try local food at Mae Sot market, such as dried tiny shrimps or Vietnamese dishes available at the night market.Tak Province Night Marketwhich is another experience that truly lets you feel the lifestyle and culture of the local people.

Simplicity and deliciousness you must try in Mae Sot

Speaking of food in Mae Sot, I, mr.hotsia, must say there is a variety from snacks to hearty dishes with bold flavors. One of my favorite dishes isMae Sot local cuisinewhich perfectly blends Thai, Burmese, and Lao flavors.

Also, the famous Pad Thai with crushed egg at a well-known restaurant in Tak city is a dish not to miss after a long journey. If you want to try dried seafood like dried squid from Koh Phangan, you can find it at nearby local markets.Dried squid and salted squid from Koh Phanganwhich I have tried and was very impressed with.
