Oh! Umphang Today — A journey full of stories and colors from mr.hotsia

When it comes to true adventure in Tak province, one route I, mr.hotsia, highly praise is “Umphang,” a town that still preserves simplicity and the unique beauty of nature. This journey starts from Tak town, passes through Mae Sot, before heading south to Umphang, which seems hidden amidst vast forests and towering mountains.

The route between Mae Sot and Umphang has noticeably improved, with well-paved roads. However, it comes with many curves. For those who enjoy driving amidst lush green views and ever-changing scenery, be prepared, as each curve seems to bring us closer to nature.

Atmosphere and Lifestyle in Umphang

Upon arriving in Umphang, the first thing you feel is the tranquility and friendliness of the locals. Most villagers still live simply, many growing vegetables and raising animals in the traditional hill tribe way. I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to talk with many locals and felt their warmth and pride in their hometown.

The small market in Umphang is not as large as in Tak town but is full of interesting local products, whether fresh fruits and vegetables from gardens, dried tiny shrimps from Tak, or even handmade local snacks just like those seen inMae Sot CuisineFor me, this market reflects the true life of Umphang people.

Preparing to Raft to Thi Lo Su Waterfall

One of the highlights of this trip that I, mr.hotsia, eagerly awaited was rafting to Thi Lo Su Waterfall, known as the “Queen of Waterfalls” in Thailand. Staying overnight in Umphang before rafting the next day gave me time to fully experience the community and local atmosphere.

Most accommodations here are warm and simple homestays. I personally chose to stay atKhamsing Homestaywhere the owner is kind and attentive. The surroundings are filled with bird songs and breezes through large trees, as if everything is recharging the energy of visitors.

Local Food in Umphang — Deliciousness Not to Miss

Speaking of food in Umphang, the simple homemade flavors here are unmatched. I tried many local dishes, from hot sticky rice dipped in spicy fermented fish chili paste to wild vegetable stir-fries with herbs found only here.

Besides local dishes, I also tried dried tiny shrimps at the local market, which reminded me of the taste inVietnamese Dried Tiny Shrimps from Takseen in videos, but this Umphang version has a unique fragrant and crispy flavor. The breakfast at the homestay also impressed me greatly, as they use fresh local ingredients, just like I experienced inJ2 Hotel Mae Sot Breakfastfull of care and attention.

Feelings from Traveling with mr.hotsia

Along the route from Tak town through Mae Sot to Umphang, I, mr.hotsia, clearly see that this area is seriously developing tourism. Roads have improved greatly, making travel more comfortable while perfectly preserving nature and traditional lifestyles.

For those who want to fully experience nature and learn about hill tribe community life, Umphang is the answer I, mr.hotsia, want to recommend. Whether it’s trekking, observing hill tribe ways, or rafting to admire the beauty of Thi Lo Su Waterfall, everything will make you feel like you’ve entered another world.

If anyone is interested in getting to know Umphang and Tak province more deeply, don’t forget to visit the atmosphere atTak Night Marketand try the signature dishTak-style Stir-fried Holy Basilfull of local flavors. I guarantee this trip will be filled with unforgettable memories.

Finally, I, mr.hotsia, emphasize that visiting Umphang is not just tourism but a chance to learn and experience the true life of hill people who still remarkably preserve nature and traditional culture. Anyone who loves nature and wants to escape the hustle should plan a trip to Umphang once, and you will surely fall in love just like me, mr.hotsia.
