Eating with Mom Part 13/13: Quitting Filming Eating with Mom with Bang Bo Salted Snakehead Fish Sauce Dish

When it comes to “Eating with Mom” from my perspective, Mr.Hotsia, it’s not just ordinary eating. It’s about connecting memories, flavors, and a lifestyle passed down in the family in my hometown of Samut Prakan, especially Bang Bo district, famous for its snakehead fish sauce and salted snakehead fish with a fragrant aroma. This is the conclusion of my Eating with Mom journey in series part 13, where I decided to stop filming eating with mom videos to focus more on truly eating and experiencing rather than filming.

Bang Bo is where I grew up. Along Samrong Canal, the main artery of Bang Bo district, I have memories of the salted snakehead fish sauce’s enticing aroma since childhood. Bang Bo salted snakehead fish sauce is unique in the world because it’s made by traditional methods passed down for generations. My parents told me that the salted snakehead fish sauce here is made from fresh snakehead fish caught from the canal. The fish is salted and fermented to achieve a mellow flavor, not just salty like ordinary fish sauce.

The Salted Snakehead Fish Sauce Dish: More Than Just Flavor

The last time I visited home, I ate the salted snakehead fish sauce dish my mother made. The taste was not just salty or sweet; it was the flavor of memories I’ve had since childhood. My mother’s salted snakehead fish sauce is mixed with freshly picked pea eggplants, bird’s eye chili, and fresh garlic, then eaten with hot steamed rice. This is the true “Bang Bo Salted Snakehead Fish Sauce Dish.” I admit that while eating this dish, I forgot all the chaos of filming and social media.

If you like exploring old markets and community life by the canal, I recommend stopping byBang Phli 150-Year-Old Old Marketwhich still preserves the unique riverside market atmosphere very well. This market lets you see the local lifestyle where boats are the main means of shopping and offers various local foods that are hard to find in big cities.

Bang Bo in Mr.Hotsia’s Memories

I was born and raised in Bang Bo. My home is by Ban Rakas Canal, a tributary of Samrong Canal. This is the origin of the famous Bang Bo salted snakehead fish known nationwide and internationally. The snakehead fish here are plumper and firmer than elsewhere because the brackish water is home to red mites, a favorite food of the fish.

In the past, villagers farmed rice and raised fish simultaneously, with fish ponds called “Teen Na” at the lowest points to keep the fish healthy. I clearly remember as a child when my parents caught snakehead fish and large snakehead fish, they would salt or ferment them to keep for the whole year.

If you’re interested in the detailed story of Bang Bo salted snakehead fish that I told, you can read the articleBang Bo Salted Snakehead Fishthat I wrote. It will help you understand the lifestyle of Bang Bo people and the special qualities of my hometown’s snakehead fish better.

Quitting Filming... Returning to Real Taste

Throughout the Eating with Mom series, I filmed many clips, but in this part, I decided to stop filming eating with mom videos to make everything real, not just a performance. The feeling of eating the salted snakehead fish sauce dish with my mom at home in Bang Bo is much deeper and warmer than filming. This made me realize that “Eating with Mom” is truly about being with family and the authentic taste of home.

If you want to experience this taste for yourself, I encourage you to come to Bang Bo, buy salted snakehead fish sauce at the fresh market or even the 150-year-old Bang Phli old market, and try it with a hot plate of steamed rice. I guarantee you will feel the same as I do.

Connecting with Bang Bo’s Lifestyle and Culture

Besides salted snakehead fish sauce and snakehead fish, Bang Bo has many interesting stories and activities such asThe Idiot Catching Contest by Mr.Hotsia Annae On Tour in Bang Bowhich is a local tradition I also participated in. Or if you like the atmosphere of old markets filled with food, goods, and nostalgic vibes, try visiting the 150-year-old Bang Phli old market I wrote about in a previous article.

Summary

For me, Mr.Hotsia, this part of Eating with Mom is not just about eating. It’s a return to origins, lifestyle, and the true flavors of my hometown Bang Bo, Samut Prakan. The Bang Bo salted snakehead fish sauce dish my mother made is like a boost of spirit and a connection of family bonds passed down for generations.

If you have never visited Bang Bo and tasted the salted snakehead fish sauce here, I invite you to open your heart and experience it yourself. You will realize that eating with mom is much warmer than you think.
