Food and Dining in Hà Giang Province, Vietnam: Delicious Charm You Must Try
Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. I had the opportunity to explore Hà Giang Province in northern Vietnam, a small town in a peaceful valley full of natural charm and local lifestyle. I want to share my food experience here based on what I truly experienced.
Breakfast at Hà Giang Morning Market
In the morning in Hà Giang, I started my day by walking tothe morning market in the town centerwhich is not far from my accommodation at Hoang Anh Hotel. This morning market is an indoor market, not very large, but bustling with local people and vendors. What impressed me most was the fresh beef displayed by the leg, showing the freshness and the clear popularity of beef among locals.
Besides that, I also tried boiled corn which locals said is famous here for its deliciousness. I strolled around to see other foods like grilled pork and many local dishes available at roadside stalls. This atmosphere reminded me of real daily life, not just for tourists but for the people of Hà Giang every day.
Lunch with Northern Vietnamese Rice and Curry
After walking around the morning market, I chose to have lunch at a street-side restaurant. It was Northern Vietnamese style food similar to rice and curry, but the highlight is that dishes are sold separately from the rice, allowing you to choose which dishes to eat with your rice. Stir-fried tofu with tomato was my favorite dish, with a balanced, fresh flavor that was not greasy. There were also other freshly made dishes ordered on the spot. I liked seeing the cook prepare food right in front of the restaurant, which assured me of cleanliness and freshness of the ingredients.
Dinner at Bong Thin Fresh Beer Bar by the Cliff
In the evening, I took a walk around the small town before heading to the famous fresh beer bar in Hà Giang called “Bong Thin.” This bar is located by the cliff in the town center, with a great atmosphere perfect for chilling after a tiring day of travel. The highlight of this place is local dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in Vietnam. One dish that impressed me was “Naem Kluk,” a northern-style fermented dish with a perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and salty taste and a unique fragrant aroma.
Besides Naem Kluk, the fresh beer here is very affordable, making it a paradise for beer lovers in a relaxed atmosphere. I kept snacking at the bar and almost forgot to have dinner. For anyone who enjoys fresh beer bars and local food, this place is a must-visit.
Lifestyle and Dining Atmosphere in Hà Giang Town
Hà Giang is a small town full of peace and natural beauty. Although it is about 25 kilometers from the Chinese border, the town's atmosphere is not chaotic or crowded like typical tourist cities. Interestingly, I hardly saw any Chinese tourists here, possibly because of the peacefulness and the well-preserved local traditions.
The town has many karaoke bars open day and night, adding color to the quiet town. However, I did not try them as I preferred to walk around and enjoy local food.
Travel and accommodation here are convenient. The hotel I stayed at wasHoang Anh Hotelwhich is located in the town center, close to the morning market and dinner restaurants. It’s easy to walk to delicious food. The hotel offers good service, affordable prices, cool air conditioning, and strong wifi, suitable for travelers who like simplicity but completeness.
