Eating fried rice at Hanoi Airport: A firsthand experience from mr.hotsia
For travelers who have passed through Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi, Vietnam, there is a feeling similar to mine, mr.hotsia. Although it is the capital's major airport, the atmosphere remains simple and not overly busy. Importantly, tasting local food at the airport is an experience not to be missed, especially the “fried rice” at Hanoi Airport.
The last time I arrived in Hanoi with Lao Airlines, I had some time to wait for my connecting flight to the city. I decided to find something to eat in the airport's food zone because I believe the food here best reflects the local flavors, even within the airport.
Hanoi Fried Rice: A flavor you must try before departure
Walking to a small restaurant inside the airport, I immediately ordered my favorite fried rice. The rice here is beautifully separated, neither soggy nor too hard. It is stir-fried with egg, shrimp, and fresh vegetables that are well-prepared. The aroma of fried garlic and a touch of soy sauce make the flavor balanced and delicious without needing much additional seasoning.
Another highlight of Hanoi Airport's fried rice is the variety of side ingredients, such as crispy fried shallots and thinly sliced cucumber, which help cut through the richness. This small meal became a perfect energy boost, preparing me fully for the journey into the heart of Hanoi.
Hanoi Airport: The beginning of a memorable journey
Noi Bai Airport is not only the gateway to Hanoi and northern Vietnam but also where mr.hotsia experienced the flavors and atmosphere of the city from the very first step.
After fueling up with delicious fried rice, I chose to travel into Hanoi city by bus line 17, an economical option that allows experiencing local life. The bus passes through several important neighborhoods before reaching Hanoi's old quarter, full of pedestrian streets and local eateries to explore.
Hanoi: A vibrant capital full of stories to discover
Many may have heard that Ho Chi Minh City is livelier, but for me, Hanoi has a unique charm found nowhere else. From colonial architecture blended with authentic Vietnamese culture to small streets filled with cafes and bustling fresh markets.

Impressions from eating fried rice at the airport
Although it is just a simple dish like fried rice, for mr.hotsia, it was a great start to traveling in northern Vietnam. It made me feel the warmth and attention to detail in Vietnamese cuisine, even in a place most people consider just a transit stop.
If you have a chance to visit Hanoi, don't forget to try the fried rice at the airport. This small experience might become a wonderful memory just like the one mr.hotsia had.
