Ho Chi Minh City Photo Exhibition: The Charm of Vietnam through mr.hotsia's Perspective
When talking about Ho Chi Minh City, also known by many as Saigon, the main city of southern Vietnam which was once a historical and cultural center, I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to stroll around the downtown area and discovered an outdoor photo exhibition displayed on a street in the city center. I must say this is not just ordinary art, but a “picture book” telling the stories of Vietnamese life and lifestyle through the eyes of local photographers and other skilled travelers.
This exhibition reflects the beauty in simplicity, featuring images of city people who continue their tiring yet charming lives, bustling fresh markets, locals working on the streets, and cityscapes blending old and modern elements perfectly. I took my time walking around and capturing photos one by one, feeling like I was traveling through a condensed version of Vietnam via these photographs.
I want to say that seeing these photos gave me a deeper understanding and feeling of Vietnamese life beyond ordinary sightseeing because each photo tells a story and conveys clear emotions. Importantly, many photos credit the photographers, showing respect and recognition for the creators. I also tried to photograph the exhibition, but sometimes wide shots made details less clear, though the beauty of the work was still evident.
The Significance of the Photo Exhibition in the Context of Ho Chi Minh City
Anyone who has traveled to Ho Chi Minh City knows there are many attractions, from Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral, to Pham Ngu Lao Street with its charming restaurants and affordable accommodations. There are also tours for tourists, including the fascinating Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai Temple tours (which I have recommended in previous articles).Buy Tours in Ho Chi MinhandCao Dai Religion Temple)
This photo exhibition becomes a small charm that blends perfectly with Ho Chi Minh City's image, helping us experience the authentic local life more deeply. Besides visiting markets and tours, this is a great opportunity for tourists to understand Vietnamese people through the eyes of photographers who love their homeland.
Walking and Photographing Experience with mr.hotsia
On the day I was walking around the city, I didn’t plan to visit this exhibition specifically but happened to pass by and stopped out of interest because each photo told a great story. I picked up my camera and took photos one by one. It reminded me of my first trip to Ho Chi Minh in January 2012, when I stayed near Pham Ngu Lao Street, a popular backpacker area, and enjoyed walking around the city.
These photos seem like a record of daily life in a city that never stops. Street vendors, locals chatting or resting after hard work, fishermen by the river, and even the warm atmosphere of the night with streetlights glowing. It felt like walking alongside local photographers.
Viewing these photos also made me want to revisit this city and explore more aspects of Vietnamese life, including convenient travel, delicious street food, and friendly locals. This place has a lively charm unlike other big cities.
Connecting Travel to Hà Nội and Northern Vietnam
Although Ho Chi Minh is lively and modern, for those who want to experience a different side of Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, recommend traveling north toHà Nộithe capital full of history and traditional lifestyle. I have shared my backpacking experience in Hà Nội before, including convenient travel by train or plane.
Hà Nội’s atmosphere is distinctly different from Ho Chi Minh, like Chiang Mai compared to Pattaya in Thailand. Here you will find Hoan Kiem Lake, night markets, and diverse local foods, all charms I want everyone to experience.
Recommended Vietnamese Food Videos to Enhance Your Ho Chi Minh Trip
After walking around the photo exhibition and learning about local life, don’t forget to try authentic Vietnamese dishes with equal charm, such as Vietnamese Grilled Button Squid, Chicken Biryani, and Nem Fang. I have compiled these in an interesting and useful video for food and travel lovers. Watch it at this link:
