Flying with Vueling Airlines, a Low-Cost Carrier from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh: A Unique Experience from Europe to Vietnam

When it comes to domestic flights in Vietnam, many people probably think of local airlines like Vietnam Airlines or Jetstar Airways. But for me, mr.hotsia, flying with Vueling, a low-cost airline from Spain, was a novel and memorable experience, especially on the Hanoi (Hà Nội) to Ho Chi Minh City route that I recently traveled.

The story began when I booked a Jetstar flight for my return from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh but was informed that I would be flying with Vueling instead. This surprised and excited me at the same time because Vueling is a well-known low-cost airline in Europe, but I had never seen it operate in this region before.

European-Style Service in Vietnamese Skies

Once on board, I noticed that the male and female flight attendants seemed to be Spanish natives. Their communication and service style reflected the familiar European standards, quite different from the Southeast Asian low-cost airlines I had experienced. The cabin was clean and orderly. Although the service was simple and cost-saving, it remained professional and friendly to passengers.

One thing that impressed me was the flight attendants' clear communication in both Spanish and English. Sometimes their accents reminded me of the European atmosphere, creating a fresh and exciting feeling during my journey within Vietnam.

Hanoi: The Northern Capital Full of Charm

Before boarding my return flight, I had time to stroll around Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, often compared to Chiang Mai in Thailand. It is a city rich in history and ancient culture. The weather was not too hot, perfect for exploring the beauty of Hoan Kiem Lake and many old neighborhoods.

This trip to Hanoi was another journey I chose to fly with Lao Airlines, which was convenient and reasonably priced. For those interested in more details about my self-guided Hanoi trip, you can readBackpacking Hanoi 2016which I wrote earlier.

From Ho Chi Minh to Adventures in Southern Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is an important city in southern Vietnam that I have visited many times. Although it is bustling and chaotic like Pattaya in Thailand, it has its own charm that travelers like me adore, especially the Pham Ngu Lao street area, which offers many affordable tours and accommodations.Book Tours in Ho Chi Minhis a good option for those wanting to explore outside the city, such as the Cu Chi Tunnels or Cao Dai Temple, which I have recommended in my articles.Cao Dai Religion Temple

Flying from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh with Vueling made me feel connected to these two important Vietnamese cities through a different experience, also allowing me to enjoy European-style taste and service that few get to try.

Food and Culture on the Flight Route

Although it is a low-cost airline, there are still food and drink services available for purchase on board. I tried the Vietnamese grilled button squid I saw in a YouTube clip (watchVietnamese Grilled Button Squid), and the taste was quite good, adding color to this journey.

Additionally, I recommend trying other local dishes like Vietnamese chicken biryani or nem fang, which have distinct flavors different from Thai food (seeVietnamese Chicken BiryaniandVietnamese Nem Fang), making my trip more diverse and memorable.

Summary of mr.hotsia's Impressions

Vueling Airlines, though a low-cost carrier, is an interesting choice for traveling within Vietnam. Compared to other Southeast Asian low-cost airlines, it offers a European feel, attentive service, and a clean cabin atmosphere, making me want to recommend flying with this airline if given the chance.

The Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh routes represent two distinctly different cities. Hanoi suits those who enjoy history and the quiet northern city lifestyle, while Ho Chi Minh appeals to those who love hustle and bustle and diverse activities, whether booking tours or exploring the city on their own. Both cities have charms that I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to experience firsthand.
