Long An, a peaceful province in the heart of the Mekong Delta

I, Mr.Hotsia, recently had the opportunity to travel south from Ho Chi Minh City to Long An Province, which many people might not yet know well or visit often because it is not a popular tourist city. But for me, Long An is a peaceful corner full of the simple vibrant life of southern Vietnamese people, located just over 40 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City.

Long An's main city is called Tan An, which serves as the provincial center. The shape of this province is long and extends westward, bordering Cambodia. It acts like a southern gateway that holds the stories and lifestyle of the Mekong Delta region fully.

Strolling around Tan An: River, Co.opmart Mall, and Favorite Fried Chicken

I traveled from My Tho to Tan An. The first impression was the peacefulness of the city, where time seems to move slower than in Ho Chi Minh City. Tourists are rarely seen, and the locals are very friendly. The streets are quiet but full of warmth. I walked along the river flowing through the city, as if this city has grown and lived alongside this river for a long time.

In the city center, there is a Co.opmart mall, a gathering place for locals. On the day I visited, the weather was quite hot, so I stopped by to escape the heat and didn’t miss eating my favorite fried chicken at “Jollibee.” This place stands out because its fried chicken is not overly salty like other places in Vietnam, making it enjoyable and memorable enough to return multiple times.

Lifestyle and Tropical Humid Climate in Long An

Long An is located in a tropical monsoon climate zone with two main seasons: the rainy season from May to November and the dry season from December to April. The average temperature throughout the year is about 28 degrees Celsius. I strolled around the city in February, when the weather was comfortably cool, not as hot as summer in Ho Chi Minh City, making sightseeing and filming the city atmosphere very enjoyable.

There are local markets and affordable shops here. I even bought cheap pants at a ground-floor store in Tan An city. It’s another fun part of traveling to experience real local life, not just tourist spots.

Travel and Connection to Ho Chi Minh City

Tan An has a main bus station connecting to Ho Chi Minh City and nearby towns. Public transportation is quite convenient. Because of the short distance from Ho Chi Minh City, some people choose to stay in Saigon instead of Long An. But for me, stopping by Long An to stroll around adds a unique experience and a deeper understanding of southern Vietnamese life.

Long An’s Cultural and Natural Stories

Although Long An does not have large tourist attractions like other cities in Vietnam, this province is notable for being part of the Mekong Delta, full of rice fields and fruit gardens. Additionally, the locals still live traditionally, with floating markets and riverside communities that are interesting. For anyone wanting to experience authentic local life, Long An is the answer I, Mr.Hotsia, want to recommend.

Connecting Deliciousness with Artichoke Tea in Vietnam

For those interested in unique food and drinks, not far from Long An is the story of Artichoke Tea, a beverage I have recommended in my articles.Artichoke TeaIn Da Lat city, it has a fragrant and sweet taste and is a great drink to cool down. This tea may not be easy to find in Long An, but if you travel further to other southern cities, you will get to enjoy new and interesting experiences.
