Long An, a peaceful city in the Mekong Delta that few tourists know about

Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I'll take you to experience the province ofLong AnA small province located in southern Vietnam, about 40 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City. Long An has a unique horizontal shape and charm unlike anywhere I've ever seen.

I started my journey from My Tho, a city famous as the gateway to the Mekong Delta, before heading to Tan An, the capital city of this province. Although I didn't stay overnight in Tan An because it is close to Ho Chi Minh City and I chose to stay in Saigon instead, stopping by to stroll around this town gave me a very different atmosphere from the big city.

Tan An City with riverside lifestyle and rare tranquility

Tan An is located by a large river flowing through the city center, like many cities in the Mekong Delta where water is life. I walked around the city, filming videos capturing the atmosphere of the fresh market and the peaceful, friendly lifestyle of the locals. Most people here live simply and unhurriedly, unlike in big cities.

One of my impressions was the Co.op mall located in the city center, a great place to escape the heat on a sunny day. I stopped to rest and eat at my favorite Vietnamese fast-food chain, Jollibee, famous for its fried chicken that isn’t overly salty like other places I’ve tried. This made my meal here delicious and perfectly energizing for the journey.

Weather and seasons in Long An

Long An is in a tropical monsoon climate zone with an average temperature of about 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year, suitable for those who like warm but not extreme heat. The rainy season lasts from May to November, and the dry season from December to April. I traveled during a month that was not too hot, making city sightseeing comfortable and not tiring.

Markets and shopping in Tan An

One of the joys of my trip was shopping at Tan An market. Prices here are affordable, especially for clothes and pants that I bought for myself. I noticed that people here are not rushed and are friendly and smiling to tourists who visit, although there aren’t many foreign tourists compared to other cities because Long An is often seen just as a pass-through to other southern Vietnamese cities.

Long An, a border province with Cambodia and cultural diversity

Because Long An stretches from east to west, its western part borders Cambodia, which brings cultural and historical diversity. Although I didn’t have the chance to travel there, this charm makes Long An different from other provinces in Vietnam.

If you like nature and a slow lifestyle, Long An is a good choice

Long An doesn’t have landmark attractions like bigger cities, but for those who enjoy traveling and exploring local community life, I think this city has charm that rivals anywhere else. I recommend walking along the river, tasting local food, and experiencing the fresh market atmosphere here.

It’s perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and experience genuine local life at a slow pace. If you are looking for a new destination in Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, recommend Long An.
