Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province – The Intriguing Gateway to Northern Vietnam
I, mr.hotsia, have traveled throughout many provinces in Vietnam, but Phu Tho Province was the last one I visited. I must admit that coming to Viet Tri City surprised me greatly because my previous impression of this province as one of the lowest per capita income areas in Vietnam was replaced by a tangible sense of development.
After flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, I took a bus to Viet Tri, the provincial capital covering about 110 square kilometers with a population of over 260,000. This city is the economic center of Phu Tho Province, hosting many industrial factories and service businesses. Wide roads and large shopping malls like Lotte stand out in the city, reflecting a modern image blended interestingly with local lifestyles.
Experience the Lifestyle and Morning Market of Viet Tri
For me, visiting any place means not missing the morning market, and here was no exception. I walked into a market with both open-air and covered sections. The market was full of fresh vegetables and fruits brought by local farmers. Even though it drizzled on the day I visited, the atmosphere remained warm and lively.
If you want to know about the local food scene, I recommend checking outViet Tri Morning Market Foodwhich I have written about before. There you can find delicious pho, egg dishes, and fragrant Vietnamese coffee along the street. Additionally, the Lotte mall has restaurants serving Vietnamese fried chicken, Korean BBQ buffet, and Thai food options.
Coffee Shops and Local Market by the Lake
Another day, I took a taxi around the lake roads in Viet Tri City, where two Vietnamese coffee shops sit side by side. I tried the coffee there; it was smooth and refreshing. The lakeside atmosphere added a peaceful and relaxing touch.
Next to the coffee shops is a small local market full of local products and unique items like braided cowhide elephant trunks I had never seen before. I bought roasted duck with crispy pork at a stall behind the coffee shop. The duck was stuffed with Chinese ma fai leaves and tasted so delicious that I declared it the best roasted duck of my life.

A Small but Friendly Stay at “Nha Nghi A9”
Regarding accommodation, I recommendNha Nghi A9a small guesthouse about 1 kilometer from Lotte mall. I chose to stay here for its simplicity and the owner's friendliness. It offers hot water and internet, which, although not very fast, is sufficient for general use. There are not many large hotels in Viet Tri City, and many lack internet in rooms as I needed. This place is a good choice for travelers wanting to experience local life.
Morning Market Walk and Activities in Viet Tri
To fully experience the morning market atmosphere, I recommend strolling through Viet Tri morning market, which has a lively open-air section where locals sell fresh produce, and a covered area offering a warm and friendly vibe. It’s a great opportunity to see authentic local life. I suggest exploring the market thoroughly to discover delicious dishes that might become your favorites.

Summary of the Viet Tri Travel Experience
Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province, is a place I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend visiting. Not just for its development and urban convenience, but for the local lifestyle, diverse local foods, and impressive morning market atmosphere. This city is not just a remote northern border province but a place where culture, art, and economy blend perfectly. If you walk the morning market, sip coffee by the street, and taste the roasted duck with crispy pork, you will feel like you have opened a new door to authentic Vietnamese travel.
