Cuisine of Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province with experiences from mr.hotsia
When it comes to traveling to experience the lifestyle of Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province, I, mr.hotsia, must say that “food” is one of the charms you absolutely should not miss. This city is located on the south-central coast of Vietnam, featuring the Da Rang River (Đà Rằng) and two prominent mountains, Chop Chai and Nhan. The scenery is very beautiful. But what I will share next are stories about the meals I tasted and the real atmosphere I experienced.
The first thing I encountered and must share is the “authentic Vietnamese Nem Nuong” which is easy to find in markets and small shops throughout Tuy Hoa. The Nem Nuong here is not only delicious but also served with a full selection of fresh vegetables. I have the GPS location of the shop I visited in the photo above. Asking locals is easy. This shop grills the Nem or fresh pork right in front of you. It’s very fresh and satisfying. The sweet aroma of pork grilled over charcoal mixed with the crispness of fresh vegetables makes this a dish I fell in love with and highly recommend everyone try.
Besides Nem Nuong, another snack that caught my eye is “fried sticky rice with shredded pork,” sold along the roadside in front of schools and around the city center. I tried it and the taste is slightly sweet and salty, crispy outside and soft inside. The shredded pork topping adds great flavor. If you like crispy fried snacks, I recommend giving this a try. It’s another dish that reflects the local lifestyle well.
If you want to change the atmosphere to enjoy the view of the Da Rang River while eating fresh seafood, there are many seafood restaurants along the riverbank where you can select your own ingredients such as shrimp, clams, crabs, and fish. The restaurant provides baskets for you to choose and sells by weight. Prices here are slightly higher than in Thailand, but the freshness and relaxing riverside atmosphere make it worth trying.
For coffee lovers, I recommend trying civet coffee made by a dedicated shop owner. Although the taste is somewhat sour and ordinary, it’s a new experience that I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend you try.Read more about civet coffeeThat I have written about
After exploring the food and walking around Tuy Hoa City, I want to recommend accommodation. For this trip, I stayed atKhach San Quynh Hoa HotelAn old hotel but renovated, with air conditioning, hot water, and internet access. Although the internet speed is not very fast, it is sufficient for those who want to relax comfortably at a reasonable price.
