Or Viet Minh (as called by North Vietnamese themselves) used the same commander as at Dien Bien Phu. At Dien Bien Phu, this commander transported artillery up the mountains confusing the French, leading to their defeat and withdrawal from Vietnam, dividing Vietnam into North and South. At the Khe Sanh battlefield, General Vo Nguyen Giap also led the defense as usual.

Although not victorious in this battle, it caused heavy damage to America, followed by Viet Minh attacks on American bases launching nationwide offensives in South Vietnam during the Vietnamese New Year. This caused many American casualties and domestic pressure in the US, eventually leading to the withdrawal of troops from South Vietnam. This battlefield is therefore significant and worth visiting to witness the determination of the Vietnamese people until they gained independence. Their determination was not enough; Vietnam also made great efforts.

For example, dismantling artillery into small parts and transporting them from North Vietnam over hundreds of kilometers through forests, Laos, and Cambodia along what is called the 'Ho Chi Minh Trail.' They reassembled them near American bases and attacked, causing heavy damage on both sides. Viet Minh attacked airports to disrupt supply lines, leaving American soldiers hungry. I’m giving a brief war summary so visitors can enjoy and understand the background when seeing the weapons.

The crashed planes at Khe Sanh help visualize the history. Khe Sanh has a war museum with photos and maps to explore, along with wreckage of vehicles, planes, and bombs scattered around.
