Located next to the Laos border, about 500 kilometers south of Hanoi, this limestone area covers 857.54 square kilometers. The park is famous for its numerous beautiful caves and is one of only two places in the world with large underground limestone rivers. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was registered as a World Heritage Site at the 27th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2003 in Paris, France.
Due to the criteria and considerations, it is an outstanding example representing significant geological or biological evolutionary processes and the interaction of humans with the natural environment currently occurring, such as volcanoes and terraced agriculture.
