Hotels in Ban Lung City, Ratanakiri: Comfortable accommodations near the city center

When it comes to visiting Ban Lung City, Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia, many might think of a remote town where travel and accommodation might not be very convenient. But mr.hotsia would like to share firsthand experience that finding accommodation here is not as difficult as you might think. Importantly, there are many impressive options. Although this town is quite remote from big cities, I found hotels with full amenities, especially WIFI internet, which I personally tested.

When mr.hotsia arrived in Ban Lung one evening, I took a tuk-tuk to a hotel without WIFI. The staff said most hotels in this town don’t offer internet service. I was skeptical, so I decided to walk around myself, even though it was already 7 or 8 PM. Eventually, I found a hotel calledRatanak Sky Inn GuestHousewhich impressed me quite a lot.

This hotel is located right in the heart of Ban Lung. The ground floor houses a small hospital, and it is adjacent to a lively fresh market bustling with color both day and night. The room I paid for was about 12 USD per night. The room had air conditioning, which was essential due to the hot and humid climate here, unlike the cooler climate of Mondulkiri Province. There was also hot water available, and importantly, WIFI service, which is rare in Ban Lung hotels.

The special feature of this hotel is not just the amenities but also the atmosphere around it. From my room window, I could see the brightly lit night market full of life. To the right was the fresh market with stalls selling various fruits and local foods. I took the opportunity to walk around the market the next morning as well (read more aboutBan Lung Morning Market, Ratanakiri)

Accommodation experience and atmosphere in Ban Lung

Although the hotel shares a building with a small clinic where people receive IV drips in the room below, I found the atmosphere unique and interesting. Sometimes, experiencing the real local lifestyle makes mr.hotsia’s trips more meaningful. This hotel feels like part of Ban Lung city, not just a place to stay.

For those wanting to deeply experience local life and culture, staying at a hotel like this is very suitable. Besides being comfortable with air conditioning and WIFI, it is conveniently located near markets and local restaurants.

Travel and accommodation in Ban Lung

There are several ways to travel to Ban Lung City, Ratanakiri Province. Mr.hotsia once traveled by bus from Kratie Province connecting from Phnom Penh to Ratanakiri in the evening. As for accommodation in Ban Lung, although not abundant and scattered throughout the city, there are quite a few hotels and guesthouses to choose from. Especially if you want a hotel with air conditioning and WIFI like where I stayed, I recommend booking atRatanak Sky Inn GuestHousewhich I highly recommend.

Food and markets near the hotel

Staying in Ban Lung allowed me to experience a variety of delicious local foods, especially a rice porridge shop in front of the accommodation, which is popular among locals at night. The rice porridge here is called Bop. There is Bop Sao (white rice porridge) served with salted egg, shredded pork, pickled vegetables, and salted fish. The flavor is mild and does not require additional pepper. I visited several times and became fond of it (if you want to know more about local food, try readingLocal Cuisine of San Manorom City, Ratanakiri)

The market in front of the hotel is a lively night market with stalls selling fresh fruits and unusual foods like fried snake and fried insects. Here, they have a snake-eating culture similar to some rural areas in our country. I walked around but was not brave enough to try. There are also local snacks like roasted rice and grilled taro sold by villagers. I recommend buying some to try in your room to support locals and taste the authentic flavors of Ban Lung (see more details inSnacks of Ban Lung People, Ratanakiri)

Summary of the stay experience in Ban Lung

You also get to experience the real atmosphere of Ban Lung next to markets and local communities, which is an experience you won’t find elsewhere.
