White Rose Restaurant Battambang: A special meal that locals and tourists must try

When it comes to dining in Battambang city, a province I, mr.hotsia, have visited several times, White Rose Restaurant is one destination I recommend without hesitation. This place is not just an ordinary restaurant but a gathering spot of flavors recognized by both locals and tourists. Ask anyone in town and they will know it because the restaurant is located in the city center, easy to reach, with a clean and pleasant atmosphere. It’s perfect for those who want a change from eating at fresh markets or roadside stalls.

During my visits to Battambang, I often ate at the bustling fresh market full of spicy local dishes. But when I wanted a slightly more formal meal, I found White Rose. This restaurant offers a variety of interesting menus, including authentic Khmer dishes and Thai-style dishes popular with locals, such as stir-fried chili, stir-fried holy basil, or grilled salted snakehead fish. Each dish is well-prepared with good flavor, not overly greasy like some places in big cities.

The owner here is very friendly and easy to talk to. Importantly, this restaurant accepts payment in US dollars, which is a big advantage for tourists like us because using dollars in Cambodia usually gets better prices than using Khmer riel. For those relaxing in this city and looking for a good, uncomplicated restaurant, White Rose is a perfect choice.

Although I tried some noodle dishes that looked appetizing, I found the taste less satisfying. I recommend eating these noodles in the morning instead because the flavor may change by evening. I have experienced this myself.

Battambang City Atmosphere and How to Get There

Battambang is not very large; walking around the city doesn’t take long. The highlight of this city is the simple and warm lifestyle of its people. It’s ideal for those who want to experience authentic local life. I, mr.hotsia, enjoy walking through Battambang’s fresh market because here you truly see the daily life of locals, from women wearing brightly colored traditional skirts to lively vendors shouting their wares.

For traveling to Battambang from Thailand, I recommend crossing at the Ban Phak Kad permanent checkpoint in Chanthaburi province, then taking a bus or shared taxi to Battambang city, which is about 100 kilometers away. The roads are very good, making travel comfortable. If you have time for a night stop, consider visiting Pailin city first, which is not far from the Thai border.

There are also interesting tourist spots in the city, such asPhnom Sampov Templewhich has a rich history related to the Khmer Rouge era, as well as the nearby Banan Temple. If you visit Battambang, don’t forget to stop by and experience these places.

Local Food with Flavors You Shouldn’t Miss

Speaking of Battambang’s local food, I have written in an articleBattambang Cuisinethat the Khmer food here is very similar to Thai food but has its own unique identity. For example, I really like the sweet fish rice porridge shop, which tastes like our chicken rice porridge but uses boneless sweet fish. It was so delicious I ate two bowls.

There are also street foods like roasted duck, grilled chicken, or fried birds, which are usually eaten with steamed rice instead of sticky rice, unlike northeastern Thailand where sticky rice is preferred.

If you want a special meal like I experienced at White Rose, try ordering stir-fried chili, stir-fried holy basil, or grilled salted snakehead fish. The flavors pair well with Battambang’s atmosphere and will truly make your meal special.

What You Should Know Before Visiting White Rose and Battambang

Although White Rose is famous and known among tourists, I, mr.hotsia, recommend also visiting the fresh market in Battambang city because there you can experience the real life vibe and a wider variety of local foods.

If you want to stay in this city, there are accommodations at various levels, from budget hotels such asGuesthouses in Battambangwhich are clean and affordable, to fully serviced hotels suitable for all types of travelers.

For those visiting Battambang, I suggest taking your time to stroll slowly around the city, observe the local lifestyle, and try unique Khmer desserts like the giant bualoy dessert I tried on the way to Phnom Penh (see more inTa Kaew Province Bualoy Dessert Clip)

Summary of mr.hotsia’s Impressions from White Rose

White Rose is a restaurant I, mr.hotsia, rate highly for cleanliness, atmosphere, and variety of dishes suitable for both locals and tourists. The dishes I recommend are stir-fried chili, stir-fried holy basil, and grilled salted snakehead fish, which are delicious and well-balanced in flavor. However, noodle dishes ordered in the evening might not be as satisfying.

If you plan to visit Battambang, don’t forget to stop by and try this restaurant, and take a walk around the city to experience the unique charm of this lovely border town.
