Next: Grilled Pork in Sihanoukville: Flavors and Lifestyle in Preah Sihanouk City

Hello, I am mr.hotsia. Today, I will take you deep into the story and experience of eating grilled pork in the coastal city of Sihanoukville, also fully known as Preah Sihanouk City (Preah Sihanouk), or as many still know it, Kampong Som. This small Cambodian city hides the charm of simplicity and the natural beauty of the Khmer sea impressively.

Journey to Sihanoukville: The Beginning of the Trip

For me, traveling here is not difficult, especially if you come from the Thai side. I chose the route through the Hat Lek border checkpoint in Trat Province, which is a permanent checkpoint that allows easy crossing to Koh Kong Province in Cambodia.Read about the journey experience from Trat to Sihanoukvillefrom me.

I took an air-conditioned bus from Cherdchai Tour from Bangkok to Trat for one night, stayed at Pop Guesthouse, an affordable place with WIFI and a nice atmosphere for travelers. After that, I bought a ticket to continue to Sihanoukville at a reasonable price. The trip from Trat to Sihanoukville takes about 4-5 hours. After crossing the border and completing immigration procedures, you arrive at a peaceful seaside town.

Sihanoukville: A Resort Town Different from the Beach Image in Mind

Many might think of Sihanoukville as Cambodia's Pattaya, but in reality, it is much quieter and more natural. The beaches of Sihanoukville have clear water; although the sand is not as fine and white as Koh Samet, it is clean and free from the chaos of large crowds of tourists. The long beach has vendors carrying goods on their heads, selling items, which creates a lively and unique atmosphere for travelers like me.Read more about Sihanoukville travel information

Sihanoukville Market: A Hub of Local Life and Freshness

I love walking through markets. Here, I recommend waking up early and strolling throughSihanoukville Marketwhich is an indoor fresh market offering fresh seafood, clothing, and many essential items. The market is located near a school, allowing me to experience the charming daily life of children going to school with teachers closely caring for them.

After browsing fresh goods and the market atmosphere, I tried the local breakfast of Sihanoukville residents, which is grilled pork rice. The taste and aroma of freshly grilled pork combined with a fried duck egg served together made my breakfast here delicious and impressive. This grilled pork rice is popular in both southern Vietnam and southern Cambodia, and it must be eaten while the pork is hot off the grill.

Must-Try Food and Flavors in Sihanoukville

Besides grilled pork, I also tried other local dishes such as chicken rice porridge, which is popular among locals. The restaurant I ate at was in front of my hotel and also operated as a late-night eatery. There were stir-fried noodles and many other local dishes with rich flavors unlike anywhere else.

Another thing I enjoyed was walking along the beach and seeing vendors carrying goods on their heads, selling food, fruits, and snacks. This is a rare sight in Thailand and clearly shows the unique charm and culture of Sihanoukville.Read more about food and restaurants here

Accommodation in Sihanoukville: Value Options for Travelers

There are many accommodation options in Sihanoukville, both in town and by the beach. I stayed at Sihanouk Timeshare Hotel, located in town, within walking distance to the beach. Living like a local, the electricity may sometimes go out, but overall the atmosphere is good and the price is not too expensive.

If you prefer beachfront stays, there are many accommodations starting at around 300 baht. This city is not yet crowded with tourists, so accommodation prices are still affordable, and there are many seaside restaurants to choose from.Read hotel and accommodation recommendations in Sihanoukville
