Backpacking Southern Cambodia 32/41: Eating Sriville Noodles, Cambodia, with a delicious special dipping sauce

When talking about backpacking in southern Cambodia, many might think of Kampot or Takaew provinces that I've shared before. But this time, mr.hotsia invites friends to try simple Cambodian noodles in a small town called “Sriville,” a charming port city near the Vietnam border. If you've stopped by Takaew and want to try something new, this place is a stop you shouldn't miss.

The Sriville noodles I found are from a small roadside shop that looks unremarkable, but once tasted, you have to give it a thumbs up. The broth is mild and fragrant with authentic Khmer spices. The noodles are chewy and just right. The highlight is the dipping sauce served on the side, which enhances the flavor with a spicy kick. mr.hotsia couldn't resist taking spoonfuls of this special sauce. I must say, it's spicy, sour, and sweet all at once, so good I had to order another bowl.

The shop's atmosphere is simple, with few foreign tourists, mostly locals eating noodles in front of the shop. I traveled from Phnom Penh through Takaew province. For those interested in detailed travel info, I have writtenTakaew Province Reviewalready. It's a small, lovely, and peaceful town, perfect for those wanting to experience authentic Khmer life.

For those who enjoy a simple morning market atmosphere, there is a fresh market near the noodle shop where you can stroll and see fresh produce and seasonal fruits sold by friendly locals. I love walking through markets like this because it shows the true life of the locals, similar to what I described in the articleStung Market Morningin Cambodia, which still preserves traditional ways of life well.

Besides noodles and the market, Sriville also has local restaurants open all day. I tried grilled beef rice porridge, a famous southern Cambodian breakfast from Svay Rieng province, which I have written about before. The flavor is mild and smooth, a warm meal that feels like eating at home.

Traveling from Sriville to Kampot province is very convenient. If you have time and want to try fresh seafood, this is a good stopover because Kampot is famous for fresh seafood and a large morning market.I have written about Kampot seafood market before.Including large oysters loved by tourists and locals alike.A must-try if you stop by.

For those who have never tried southern Khmer noodles, I recommend making a stop at Sriville once. You will realize that the noodles here are not just about the noodles or broth but the care and flavors that truly satisfy locals. The special dipping sauce that mr.hotsia loves is guaranteed to win anyone over.

If you want to see the atmosphere live, I have a video review of Sriville noodles for you to watch.Click here to watch the videoto see real images and hear the sounds from the roadside noodle shop.

In summary, this backpacking trip in southern Cambodia was very worthwhile because I got to try local food that is not easy to find, experience the local lifestyle, and travel through a charming small town like Sriville. If you enjoy real food, delicious meals, and want to experience a fresh market atmosphere like the Khmer locals, mr.hotsia recommends planning a visit here. You won't be disappointed.
