Seafood at Kampot Morning Market, Kampot Province, Cambodia

When talking about Kampot Province in Cambodia, many may know it as a small, peaceful seaside town. But for me, mr.hotsia, this place is a must-visit destination for seafood lovers and those who enjoy an authentic Khmer-style morning market atmosphere. The freshness of the ingredients, the variety of dishes, and the lifestyle of the people at Kampot Morning Market are what made me fall in love and want to share this story openly with everyone.

Kampot Morning Market is located in the heart of the town. It remains traditional, much like morning markets in many other provinces of Cambodia such asStung Marketwhich I have visited before. The atmosphere here is full of life, with vendors calling out their goods, buyers selecting fresh ingredients, and the scent of the sea wafting through the air. It made me feel like I had stepped into the real world of local people, not just a tourist spot.

Upon entering the market, the first thing that catches the eye is the neatly arranged stalls selling fresh seafood, including grilled prawns, sea crabs, large oysters, fresh sea fish, and crisp squid. Everything is carefully displayed to attract customers. I, mr.hotsia, made sure to explore and personally ask the local vendors about their stories.

Some vendors here speak both Khmer and simple Thai, making price bargaining more fun than just a regular transaction. I tried freshly grilled large prawns with a sweet and crisp taste straight from the sea, and fresh oysters that were sweet and creamy with no fishy smell at all. The sea crabs here are also very meaty and fresh, perfect for those who love seafood in every bite.

If talking about must-try dishes at Kampot Morning Market, besides grilled prawns and oysters, there is also Khmer dry noodles that I previously wrote about inKhmer Dry Noodles in Kampot ProvinceThe flavor is rich and balanced, with chewy soft noodles combined with spices and a strong broth. This is the charm of an authentic Khmer breakfast that I feel is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Traveling to Kampot is not difficult. I, mr.hotsia, have traveled here many times, both from Phnom Penh and Takaew Province nearby (Traveling Takaew Province). Each time, I chose to travel by bus and boat to fully experience the atmosphere on both sides of the Mekong River and the sea. Passing through provinces like Takaew or Svay Rieng, where I once stopped to eat grilled beef rice porridge (Grilled Beef Rice Porridge in Svay Rieng Province), then arriving at the seafood here, I felt that traveling in Cambodia is full of charm and endless stories to discover.

Besides fresh seafood, Kampot Morning Market also offers other fresh and dried goods such as local vegetables, fresh fruits directly from nearby farms, as well as authentic Khmer kitchen spices and herbs. You can choose to buy fresh ingredients to cook yourself or enjoy meals at small eateries in the market.

The atmosphere of Kampot Morning Market is filled with the friendliness of the locals. I, mr.hotsia, felt like part of the community when chatting with vendors and fruit sellers. There is no rush or chaos like markets in big cities; everything moves slowly and naturally. This charm makes me want to return again.

For those interested in seeing the full atmosphere, I have made a videoSeafood at Kampot Morning Market, Kampot Province, CambodiaI guarantee you will see the freshness and variety of seafood, as well as a deeper insight into the morning market lifestyle.
