Haircut in Svay Rieng, Cambodia with a firsthand experience by mr.hotsia

When mr.hotsia arrived in Svay Rieng city in Cambodia, one of the planned activities was to get a very short haircut like never before. Although aware that the back of the head might look flat and not very attractive, a traveler's life like mine does not depend much on others' opinions. This was a great opportunity to truly experience the atmosphere of a barbershop abroad.

Svay Rieng is a small city with its own unique charm. Besides being a travel hub connecting various provinces, it is filled with the simple and warm lifestyle of the Khmer people. The barbershop I chose was not far from my accommodation, easily reachable on foot. I opted for a women's barbershop service because I wanted both a haircut and hair wash in one place for convenience and to avoid itching from walking around with wet hair.

Haircutting here is not complicated like back home; scissors are mainly used. It took about 30 minutes from cutting to washing. The cost was very affordable, around 100 Thai Baht in total. I was impressed by the barber's meticulousness and patience. Although it took time, I got a hairstyle that I was quite satisfied with.

The atmosphere in the barbershop clearly reflects the lifestyle of Svay Rieng people. The barber chatted in a friendly manner, making me feel like I was exchanging small cultural talks with the locals. The simplicity of this town reminded me of the morning markets in Stung and Ta Keo provinces, which mr.hotsia had visited before. Both places have the atmosphere of local markets and friendly vendors alike.

After finishing the haircut, I didn't miss the chance to stroll and taste authentic Khmer breakfast, such as grilled beef rice porridge available in Svay Rieng. A small rice porridge shop in the city center where people come to buy takeout or eat in. I ate while chatting with the owner, practicing Khmer language. I got both delicious food and a genuine feeling of closeness with the locals. Read more aboutGrilled Beef Rice Porridge in Svay Rieng Provincehere

Traveling to Svay Rieng is not complicated. It connects with other provinces like Ta Keo, which I have experienced before. The bus trip from Phnom Penh to Ta Keo takes about 2.5 hours, passing through Kandal province and stopping at the small Ta Keo market terminal, which is a convenient connection point to Svay Rieng and other cities in Cambodia. From mr.hotsia's perspective, the barbershop in Svay Rieng is not just a place for beauty services but also a space that truly reflects the lifestyle and culture of the Cambodian people. Sitting for a haircut here is like a journey to deeply experience local life, similar to visiting the Stung morning market that I enjoy exploring each time.Stung Morning Marketstill preserves the charm of a traditional market admirably.

Trying a very short skinhead haircut in Svay Rieng this time helped me understand more that traveling is not just about visiting places but also about experiencing the real life of people in small towns that are rarely talked about. If you want to try off the beaten path and experience Cambodia from a new perspective, I recommend visiting Svay Rieng and getting a haircut there once. You will get both a new hairstyle and great stories to take home for sure.

The skinhead haircut in Svay Rieng may look simple, but for me, it was a journey that fully and deeply touched the real life in Cambodia.
