Pursat Province Cambodia: A small town full of charm and Tonle Sap lakeside lifestyle
Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I will take you to experience the atmosphere and stories of Pursat Province in Cambodia. This province may not be very familiar to Thai tourists, but for me, Pursat is a town that perfectly balances nature, Khmer lifestyle, and a simple charm that is truly impressive.
Pursat Province is located about 35 kilometers from Tonle Sap Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in the region and home to the floating Khmer villages, known as “floating houses.” This is a major tourist attraction highly recommended by many. However, on this trip, I did not have the chance to fully visit Tonle Sap Lake. If I get the opportunity next time, I intend to return to capture clearer images and the atmosphere of these floating villages.
Strolling in Pursat Town: Ancient Granaries and a Bustling Main Market
While exploring Pursat town, I found a large ancient granary located in the center of town, which is a cultural symbol reflecting the agricultural lifestyle of the locals very well. These granaries are not commonly seen in big cities. There is also an old rice mill in good condition, evoking memories of the past and the efforts of the local people here.
Most houses in Pursat are made of wood. I noticed both native Khmer people and ethnic minorities living together. Their clothing is distinctive; some have long wavy hair and wear accessories different from other towns. This creates a culturally diverse and interesting atmosphere in the town.
The Pursat market is another place that impressed me greatly. The market is large and lively, with locals shopping in great numbers. I tried Krosang, a local dish made from boiled fish with a rich flavor, and also tasted Bay Cha or special fried rice here. The taste was mellow and full of fresh ingredients. For me, this way of eating is a true experience of the real lifestyle of Pursat people, not just eating to fill the stomach.
Connecting with Nearby Travel Routes and Experiences
While traveling to Pursat Province, I recalled my experience passing through Ta Kaew Province, which borders Vietnam, where I traveled by boat through the checkpoint there.Ta Kaew ProvinceIt is a small and peaceful town with a small market full of local colors as well. The trip from Phnom Penh to Ta Kaew takes about two and a half hours by air-conditioned bus. Although the air conditioning is not very cold, it is an experience I enjoyed.
If you like the lively atmosphere of morning markets like this, try visitingStung Treng Morning Marketin Stung Treng Province, a traditional market that still maintains the friendliness of vendors and locals. I really like markets like this because they truly reflect the real life of the people.
Travel Tips and Advice from mr.hotsia
For traveling to Pursat Province, I recommend taking a bus from Phnom Penh, or if you want to experience the Mekong riverside lifestyle, you can also take a boat through water routes connecting nearby provinces, similar to my trip through Ta Kaew Province.
Once in Pursat, you should take the opportunity to walk around the town and market. Walking allows you to fully experience the real atmosphere of this town, whether it’s the ancient granaries, old wooden houses, or the friendly people who invite conversation with bright smiles.

Pursat Province is not a famous tourist city like Phnom Penh or Ta Keo, but for me, it is full of charm that cannot be found elsewhere. Seeing the lifestyle of the locals, strolling through the large traditional market, and tasting local dishes like Krosang and Bay Cha are what make this province truly memorable.
