Walking into Cambodia with the real experience of mr.hotsia
This time, mr.hotsia had the chance to experience walking into Cambodia along with a flight by Angkor Air, which impressively connects international routes. I must say this trip was unlike any usual travel because every step and every corner I encountered was a true story from my own real experience.
The start of the journey – Cross-border checkpoint
This journey began by walking across the border into Cambodia through a checkpoint not far from Ta Kaew Province, a province I had passed by bus when traveling from Vietnam to Phnom Penh. This province borders Vietnam and has an immigration boat checkpoint I used in the past. Although this time I did not cross via the Mekong River as before, walking across the border gave me a new atmosphere that was both peaceful and filled with the sincerity of the local people.
Cross-border walking experience and immigration procedures
I remember that when I walked through the Cambodian immigration checkpoint, my first feeling was excitement and novelty because it was not crowded or chaotic like a big airport. Instead, it felt warm and friendly beyond my expectations. The immigration officers smiled and were very helpful, making me feel this trip would be a memorable experience.
After passing the checkpoint, I saw the lifestyle of the border villagers who still firmly preserve their traditional culture. There was a small market selling a variety of goods, from fresh vegetables and fruits to local snacks. For anyone interested in this kind of atmosphere, mr.hotsia recommends taking a walk and chatting with the locals to truly appreciate their impressive sincerity.
Connecting to Angkor Air flight to the heart of Phnom Penh
After crossing the border and completing formalities, I used Angkor Air, Cambodia's main airline, flying directly from a nearby airport to Phnom Penh, the capital city full of vibrant colors and fascinating history. Flying with Angkor Air this time, mr.hotsia was impressed by the comfort, warm service of the crew, and punctuality that made the trip smooth.
Stopover in Ta Kaew Province before heading to Phnom Penh
On the way from the border checkpoint to Phnom Penh, I chose to stop and rest in Ta Kaew town, the capital of the same province.Ta Kaew ProvinceA small province with its own charm, not yet frequently visited by foreign tourists. I stayed atHouy Meyly Guest HouseA small newly built hotel located behind the town market, just a few hundred meters from the market. Convenient and affordable.
I really liked the atmosphere of the Ta Kaew market. It is lively in the morning and evening, with local vendors selling fresh vegetables, fruits, and traditional food that reminded me of the simple yet warm lifestyle of the true Khmer people.
Taste local breakfast in Ta Kaew and nearby markets
In the morning, I walked to the market and chose to eat Khmer-style grilled beef rice porridge, a common local breakfast found throughout Cambodia, similar to what I had in Svay Rieng Province.Grilled beef rice porridge in Svay Rieng ProvinceThe difference lies in the taste and seasonings used, giving each province its unique character. The hot rice porridge with fragrant spices and tender grilled beef made mr.hotsia feel warm and ready to continue exploring that day.
Stroll through Stung market and experience Khmer lifestyle
For those who enjoy traditional fresh markets, I recommend Stung morning market.Stung morning marketAlthough located in the city area, it still retains the charm of an open-air market. Vendors here speak Khmer Suoy and Isan languages. The atmosphere is friendly and lively. I spent several hours walking around, tasting local foods, and buying fresh ingredients to cook at my accommodation.
Kampot seafood market – Ending the trip with delicious seafood
Before returning, I also stopped by Kampot morning market.Seafood at Kampot morning market, Kampot ProvinceFamous for the freshness of seafood, especially large and affordable oysters.Fresh seafood oysters at Kampot marketThis is another favorite spot of mr.hotsia because I got to see the lifestyle of fishermen and taste authentic seafood unlike anywhere else in the world.
For anyone looking for a fun and delicious cross-border trip, Cambodia, especially the route through Ta Kaew and Kampot provinces, is highly recommended by mr.hotsia. Open your heart and travel yourself to experience the sincerity of the people and the true flavors of food without embellishment.
