For me, I prefer to stroll around the town, which feels very local and unlike anything you can find in Thailand anymore. Just walking around to observe the lifestyle of Battambang people and visiting Battambang market is worth the trip. Also, the town of Battambang is not very big; walking around will cover the whole area. There's no need to hire tuk-tuks for city tours like in Phnom Penh. If traveling from Thailand, exit at the "Permanent Border Checkpoint Ban Phak Kat" in Chanthaburi Province, then take a bus or

come to Battambang, which is about 100 kilometers away. The roads are newly constructed and in excellent condition. Alternatively, you can stop over at Pailin for a night. Pailin is 26 kilometers from the border (the border town is Prum) and 30 kilometers north of Ban Phak Kat checkpoint. There is another permanent border checkpoint there, which I have not visited yet, but it is a major checkpoint with ATMs on the Thai side and a casino on the Cambodian side. You can also enter from Poipet and take a bus to Battambang, or continue from Phnom Penh, which takes about 4 hours.

The bus fare is about 200 baht. Accommodation in Battambang is inexpensive compared to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Air-conditioned rooms cost around per night. Even luxury accommodations are still affordable (accommodation in Battambang). If you want guaranteed accommodations, book in advance. Food in Battambang includes many curry rice shops, similar to Thai food with slight differences in appearance. Tourist-style restaurants serve dishes at about 2 USD each. Overall, the cost of living in Battambang is very low, making it a highly recommended travel destination.

Mr.Hotsia highly recommends visiting. For touring Battambang, I suggest hiring a tuk-tuk for a full day at 13 USD, which is worth it. Find a driver who speaks good English for convenience. I believe soon many tourists will visit Battambang, and more drivers who speak Thai will be available. When I visited in December 2011, it was already possible to find Thai-speaking people at various places. ATMs accept Thai VISA cards for cash withdrawal.

Battambang has a giant statue holding a club built less than ten years ago called "Luang Ta Kampong Dong Yuong." Actually, Battambang, pronounced in Khmer as Pătđămbâng, means 'lost club,' but there is a giant statue holding a club, which seems unusual. Nevertheless, locals highly revere it. One main reason Thai tourists visit here is to pay respects to this giant. Battambang is a small but naturally rich city, abundant with shrimp, shellfish, crabs, and fish filling the markets. The Stung Sangker River, originating from Chanthaburi, flows through the city before emptying into Tonle Sap Lake. The river is rich in fish, and locals fish with nets for food. It is truly a paradise for travelers. Additionally, some French colonial buildings remain, giving the town a unique and beautiful appearance. Visiting Battambang feels like traveling back in time to old Thailand with authentic French architecture. A clip introducing Battambang travel and a map of Battambang province from
