The color is exactly the same, but I didn't taste it. This giant pea eggplant is sold around Kampong Chhnang and is common for the locals. The giant pea eggplants in the area sell for 7 baht each. After analyzing, I think it's the same type of eggplant but grown in the fertile soil near Tonle Sap Lake, resulting in larger than usual eggplants. Unfortunately, I didn't eat it. Otherwise, I think one bowl of chili paste shared by 4-5 people with just one giant pea eggplant would be enough to fill the whole family. One plant could feed the entire village.
The walkway to the Tonle Sap riverside has villagers selling vegetables on the right side. Giant pea eggplants are among them, along with other unusual items. If you visit Kampong Chhnang, don't miss walking through the local riverside market. I don't know if the central market near the bus stop also has giant vegetables. You might even find giant chili peppers or 1-meter-long yardlong beans. Try walking around if you come here. mr.hotsia July 2012.
