It is a district located on the east bank of the Mekong River, specifically the Tonle Bassac or upper Mekong branch after it splits into two in Cambodia. The lower branch flows towards Chea Dok.
The upper branch comes this way and flows towards Tien Giang city. At Neak Loeang, there is a large ferry that can carry vehicles across. This route connects Phnom Penh, Kandal, Svay Rieng, and Ho Chi Minh City. Anyone traveling by road from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh must pass through this city. At Neak Loeang, I enjoy watching locals selling goods here. It is colorful; they carry items on their heads including snacks and various foods. Both Khmer and Vietnamese people are present. Neak Loeang also has horse-drawn carts used for transporting goods.
It is an important and busier port city than Prey Veng province itself. Here you can find delicious mangoes sold by Khmer people during mango season. Don’t forget to try them.
