Beautifully Chinese: Kachin Woman at Indawgyi Lake, Kachin State, Myanmar

I, mr.hotsia, have just returned from a journey that filled my heart with joy from the beauty of nature and the still-pure culture at Indawgyi Lake, Kachin State, Myanmar. While many know Myanmar through its big cities or famous temples, for me, Indawgyi Lake is like an undiscovered gem.

Indawgyi Lake is located in Kachin State in northern Myanmar. It is a large freshwater lake with vast length and width, allowing a clear view of the lifestyle of the people living around it. Here, I met Kachin women, an indigenous tribe who remarkably preserve their traditional culture. The women here are distinctive with their intricate traditional costumes, beautiful patterns, and friendly smiles, which I believe add to the charm of this place.

Traveling to Indawgyi Lake is quite challenging for foreign tourists because it requires passing mountainous routes and unfamiliar dirt roads. But for mr.hotsia, this is part of the fun of traveling. Seeing the real lifestyle of the Kachin people living in small lakeside villages, who still catch fish by hand and traditional tools, and practice simple yet effective farming, is truly rewarding.

The food here is another impression I want to share. Kachin women often use ingredients from the lake and forest to cook dishes that are spicy yet balanced in flavor. Especially fresh Indawgyi fish, which is prepared as spicy curry and fish salad with just the right sour and spicy taste, making me forget the usual flavors I've had before.

Although this place is not directly in China, because Kachin State borders China, I clearly saw traces of Chinese culture woven into the lifestyle of the Kachin people. Just like when I traveled toTanghwa Provincewhich is a province where local Chinese cuisine remains diverse and interesting. Experiencing the blended lifestyle of Chinese and Kachin made my journey exciting and truly fulfilling.

Besides the lake, the local markets around Kachin State are also destinations I didn’t want to miss. These markets are full of local products, fresh food, and aromatic spices that invite tasting. It reminded me of the atmosphere ofSuphanburi Morning Marketat home. Although in different countries, the lively market atmosphere is very similar. I tasted exotic fruits never seen in Thailand, as well as local dishes carefully prepared and served with the sellers’ smiles.

For travelers who want to challenge themselves with routes less traveled, I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting Indawgyi Lake and Kachin State. Although the journey is not as comfortable as big cities, the natural beauty and culture here will make you fall in love and want to return again.

If you enjoy sincere, unembellished travel and are open to new experiences like me, don’t forget to watch the video I recordedBeautifully Chinese: Kachin Woman at Indawgyi Lake, Kachin State, Myanmarto fully experience the atmosphere and feelings from the real field.
