On the first day I arrived at Fenghuang Ancient Town, I was excited by the well-preserved old riverside town scenery. For dinner, I planned to have a nice meal. I chose a restaurant with a view of the bridge over the Tuojiang River and picked a time just before dark to enjoy both daytime and nighttime atmospheres. Click the location on the photo above. I bought traditional ancient liquor from Fenghuang Ancient Town as an appetizer served in a gourd bottle. Here, they sell it in both real and plastic gourds. When choosing food in a different place, I rely on the recommended menu. Of course, it’s in Chinese and I can’t read it, but the owner uses a phone translator to show me the Thai translation so I can understand the dishes. Ordering two or three dishes is enough to experience their food culture.
The restaurant I recommend has delicious hot pot. They add duck blood cake, a famous dish of Fenghuang, Hunan Province. All other dishes were also delicious, especially paired with Chinese liquor. I imagined myself traveling back 100 years ago, attending a martial arts gathering in Fenghuang Ancient Town (maybe I read too much 'Twin Dragons Fighting Ten Directions'). Above all, the restaurant I sat in had a beautiful view.
