Introducing Dekeling Hotel in Darjeeling, India by mr.hotsia
Darjeeling is a small town in the Himalayas that I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit recently. It is a town full of natural charm and diverse cultures. It is famous for its tea and a European atmosphere perfectly blended with Indian uniqueness. For accommodation in Darjeeling, I chose to stay atDekeling HotelA medium-sized hotel located in the heart of the tourist zone. Just a few steps away, you can find cozy coffee shops, including restaurants like KFC and an old church that is a city landmark.
The price listed on Google Maps is about 2,200 THB per night, but I visited during the rainy season, which is the low season in Darjeeling, so I got a special price by booking directly at the hotel — only 800 THB per night. Staying here felt like truly experiencing local life because the hotel is not luxurious but very clean and warm, perfect for travelers who focus on experience and value.
Location of Dekeling Hotel
The highlight of Dekeling Hotel is its location, which I think is excellent for those who want to stroll around Darjeeling comfortably. The hotel is next to a popular walking area for tourists, with small coffee shops to stop by for a good drink, as well as a KFC that has become a meeting point for tourists and locals. It is also close to an open plaza where locals often walk or sit and chat in the evening. The atmosphere here is warm and friendly, unlike big hotels in town that might feel detached from real local life.
However, the limitation here is that there are not many restaurants in this area. Although there are some local eateries, most Darjeeling residents do not focus much on restaurants like in big cities. If you want to fully enjoy local food, I recommend exploring the fresh market or other dining areas I have mentioned in my articles.Food in Darjeeling, IndiaWhere you can fully enjoy the authentic taste of MOMO and other local dishes.
Must-Experience in Darjeeling
For those visiting Darjeeling and staying at Dekeling Hotel, I, mr.hotsia, recommend taking a walk around the accommodation area to truly experience the life of locals and tourists visiting this town. As you know, Darjeeling is famous for its tea. Although I am not a big tea drinker, I still tried a cup of Darjeeling tea following the recommendations I wrote about in the article.Darjeeling Tea, IndiaThe floral fragrance and light taste of this tea reminded me well of the mountain town’s atmosphere.
Also, don’t forget to ride the historic Toy Train, a UNESCO World Heritage and a symbol of Darjeeling. This train takes you through beautiful mountain views and tea plantations, offering a unique experience. If you are interested in the fresh market in town, I have recommended it in my article.Fresh Market, Darjeeling, IndiaNot far from the hotel, walking around this market lets you see the real lifestyle of locals and a wide selection of fresh local food.
Transportation and Convenience
Getting to Darjeeling is fairly convenient, especially if you fly into the nearest airport, Bagdogra Airport. From there, you can take a Jeep or shared taxi into town. Prices depend on the number of passengers and bargaining. I, mr.hotsia, recommend walking out of the airport terminal to the Jeep parking area and negotiating directly with drivers for a better price than going through middlemen.
Once in Darjeeling, most city travel is best done on foot. For trips to nearby attractions, you can rent a Jeep as needed. I have also visited the nearby city of Siliguri, a major gateway to Sikkim, which I wrote about in an article.Backpacking in Siliguri, West Bengal, IndiaFor those interested in planning further travel
Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia
If you ask me, mr.hotsia, which accommodation in Darjeeling is worth considering, Dekeling Hotel is a great value choice for travelers wanting to experience local atmosphere and explore the town conveniently. The price I got during the rainy season was very cheap, and the location allowed me to enjoy many days of walking around without getting bored.
Darjeeling is not a city focused on modernity or fancy restaurants but has charm in its simplicity, hill tribe culture, and stunning mountain views. I, mr.hotsia, believe everyone who comes here will have a different experience from big cities in India for sure.
