Backpacking Bangalore 1/17: Journey to Bangalore, India
I am mr.hotsia, just settling my backpack in Bangalore, the major city in the heart of Karnataka state, India. This time I am not just passing through but intend to explore the real life of the city nicknamed the 'Silicon Valley of India' because Bangalore is the center of technology and innovation in India. It is the third most populous city in the country and has a distinctly different atmosphere from other major Indian cities.
From the moment I landed at Bangalore airport, I could feel that this place is different from Mumbai or Chennai where I have been before. The streets are clean and orderly, large trees line the roads and parks providing impressive shade. Even though it is summer, it doesn’t feel hot enough to need an umbrella like elsewhere because the tree shade greatly reduces the heat.
As a traveler, I intend to delve deeper into life in Bangalore beyond just visiting the many technology hubs scattered around the city. This time I haven’t had the chance to visit the high-tech zones outside the city because that requires traveling out and knowing locals to truly experience the atmosphere.
Therefore, this trip I chose to focus on food and local markets instead. Starting with finding authentic Indian chicken biryani, famous in Bangalore. Eating chicken biryani in a fresh market here was a great experience. The flavor is rich with spices, fragrant with turmeric and cinnamon, mixed with tender chicken and a moderately spicy sauce, making me feel like I was sharing a meal with locals.
The markets in Bangalore are lively and bustling. I walked around fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and a variety of spices, some of which I had never seen before. This atmosphere reminded me of markets in other Indian cities I have visited, such asMumbaiorChennaiBut Bangalore looks cleaner and more organized, reflecting the city’s clear commitment to environmental care.
I also tried other local foods such as Indian-style fried chicken, crispy outside and tender inside, perfectly seasoned with various spices, as well as Indian sweets that are sweet but not overly rich. Eating here made me feel connected to the lifestyle of Bangalore’s people.
Besides food, Bangalore has many parks and green spaces perfect for relaxation. I spent the morning strolling in a park with tall trees and blooming tropical flowers, enjoying a peacefulness rarely found in other big Indian cities.
Bangalore is a developed and modern city but still retains traditional Indian ways of life in every corner. I, mr.hotsia, traveling with a heart to experience the real life of this city, found that the cultural diversity and modernity blend perfectly, making Bangalore uniquely charming.
