Eating Indian Fried Chicken and Authentic Chicken Biryani in Bangalore (Bengaluru), India

Backpacking Bangalore 10/17: Chicken Biryani on a Banana Leaf, Eating with Hands like an Indian

When talking about Bangalore (Bengaluru), the capital of Karnataka state, where mr.hotsia traveled to experience firsthand, many might think of the Silicon Valley of India, a modern technology hub. But for me, this trip was not about visiting IT offices or technology business centers. Instead, it focused heavily on local food and the lifestyle of the people in this city.

Bangalore is an impressive city in terms of cleanliness and the lush greenery of large roadside trees. Even in the summer when the sun is scorching hot, people here walk the streets without umbrellas because the shade from the big trees provides incredible sun protection. I walked past lively public parks and local markets filled with the fragrant aroma of spices and cheerful conversations.

After experiencing the city atmosphere, I found a famous chicken biryani shop located in a small alley. Eating chicken biryani in Bangalore is unlike anywhere else in the world because here they serve it simply but charmingly: placing the chicken biryani on a fresh banana leaf and eating it with bare hands in the traditional Indian way.

The chicken biryani here is fragrant with the clear scents of cinnamon and cardamom. The tender chicken is marinated with spices and grilled perfectly, neither dry nor tough. It also has a rich flavor worthy of a local dish passed down through generations. Eating with hands on a banana leaf makes you feel truly connected to the lifestyle. Looking around, I saw locals eating together simply and warmly. This is the charm of traveling with mr.hotsia—not just sightseeing but experiencing and tasting firsthand.

Bangalore is not just a technology city but also has outstanding food and cultural corners that I want to recommend everyone to visit. And if anyone is interested in reading the full story about Bangalore, mr.hotsia has written it inBackpacking Bangalore (Bengaluru)which offers a deeper overview of the city beyond just chicken biryani.

Besides chicken biryani, Bangalore has many authentic Indian dishes that I tried and want everyone to experience, whether it’s hot mutabba or special fried chicken recipes found only in this city. The video clips I recorded on this trip total 17 clips.
