Backpacking India 122/129: Full Thai Ancient Temple Meal at the Thai Community Village in India, Thaiphake Village

When talking about India, many people probably think of the grandeur of temples, cultural diversity, and spicy food. But for this trip, mr.hotsia takes you to explore another less talked about side — the “Thai Village in India” called Thaiphake Village, a small community full of warmth and the charm of ancient Thai culture remarkably preserved.

Getting here is not easy because this village is located in a remote area of India. But for mr.hotsia, these difficulties add charm, making this journey valuable and a unique experience. Upon arriving at Thaiphake Village, the first impression was the peaceful atmosphere and the friendliness of the community, who still live simply with an ancient Thai temple as the community center. Most importantly, the food here retains authentic Thai flavors that are hard to find abroad.

Enjoying a Full Ancient Thai Temple Meal

mr.hotsia had the chance to dine at the temple in this village, which was an incredibly impressive experience. The food served was not just ordinary snacks but “ancient Thai cuisine” with recipes and cooking methods traditionally preserved by the locals, from fragrant spicy curry, rich shrimp paste chili dip, to carefully cooked stir-fried vegetables and steamed rice.

I spoke with villagers who shared that these dishes were brought by Thai immigrants over a hundred years ago and have been preserved as an important cultural heritage. Even thousands of kilometers away from Thailand, authentic Thai flavors still deeply connect the community’s feelings and memories to their homeland.

Besides the food, the temple atmosphere was filled with the scent of incense lit for worship and soft chanting, creating a real sense of peace and faith. mr.hotsia listened to the chanting while savoring the food, feeling like traveling back in time to the true essence of Thai culture.

Lifestyle and Culture of the Thai People in Thaiphake Village

This village is not only famous for its food but also rich in a lifestyle blending Thai and Indian cultures harmoniously. Most villagers still wear traditional Thai clothing on special occasions such as festivals and ceremonies, maintaining customs passed down through generations.

mr.hotsia witnessed the making of traditional Thai desserts using local Indian ingredients combined with Thai recipes handed down through generations. Conversations with the elders revealed that the Thai community here strives to preserve their identity sustainably despite facing different environments and cultures.

I also had the opportunity to walk around the temple and village area, finding kitchen gardens and herbs used in Thai cooking, such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and fresh chili, which keep the food fresh and flavorful even though they are far from Thailand.

Connecting Experiences with Travel in India

Visiting Thaiphake Village reminded mr.hotsia of other trips in India, such asBangaloreA big city full of technology and modernity, orMumbaiWith diverse history and culture, each city has its own charm and unique stories.

But this Thai village in India is like a small oasis where I could truly experience Thai identity in a foreign land, where Thai and Indian cultures blend together seamlessly and surprisingly harmoniously.

For those interested in experiencing this, mr.hotsia recommends researching and planning ahead because accessing this village is not easy. Having a guide or local help will make your trip smooth and full of wonderful memories.
