Backpacking Northern India 30/45: Giant Milk Foam, Delhi
Hello, I am mr.hotsia with a journey blending the chaos and charm of Northern India. Today I take you to explore the “Giant Milk Foam” of Delhi, a new iconic image of the big city that many may have never known before.
Delhi, the capital city of India, known by many as the center of politics and great history. But on this trip, I intend to tell a different story — the unusual sight of the “Giant Milk Foam,” a natural phenomenon rarely talked about. For me, this is an interesting side of Delhi that reflects the lives of its people well.
The “Giant Milk Foam” or Milk Foam that appears in some parts of the city is caused by foam from oil and pollutants in the river, forming massive bubbles. The first time I saw it, I could hardly believe my eyes because it looked like a fluffy white milk foam mountain in the middle of a bustling city. Some may see it as a shocking environmental problem, but for mr.hotsia, I see it as a symbol revealing what Delhi hides behind its development.
While walking among the giant milk foam, I met various people — children playing with the foam and getting soaked, and adults trying to avoid the dirtiness. The feeling was a contradiction between the beauty of nature and the challenge of managing a big city still facing clear pollution problems.
If anyone has followed me fromChi River TriporBackpacking Bangaloreyou would know that I like to look for new perspectives beyond famous tourist spots, focusing on understanding the lifestyles and environments people face. In Delhi as well, I see both beauty and challenges combined into a big picture of the Indian capital full of vitality and constant change.
Speaking of traveling in Delhi, I recommend preparing yourself for the crowd and diversity of people. Traveling by auto-rickshaw (tuk-tuk) is an experience I really enjoy because it lets you feel the city's scents and sounds up close. Street food is another charm I want everyone to try, whether it’s the fragrant spiced Masala Chai tea or the sweet, crispy-yet-soft Jalebi dessert.
Visiting Delhi is not just about seeing famous landmarks like the Red Fort, India Gate, or Qutub Minar. I, mr.hotsia, believe that stopping by less talked about spots like this giant milk foam will help us understand the city more deeply and open new horizons for travelers who want to see the real India.
