Backpacking Northern India 45/45: Satisfying Thai Appetite Returning from India (End)
My northern India trip with mr.hotsia has reached a full conclusion with a satisfying culinary experience filled with familiar Thai flavors. Returning from India, after visiting many provinces and major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and others I mentioned before, this time I want to share my feelings after experiencing Indian food and lifestyle. Although far away, there is a connection to Thailand through intense and full-flavored food.
Food in India was the heart of this journey. I clearly remember in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state, where I visited parks and large trees providing shade along the walkways.Backpacking BengaluruThe food I loved most was authentic Indian chicken biryani with fragrant spices that made me order several plates. The great thing was the affordable price compared to the quality and quantity received.
When I visited MumbaiBackpacking MumbaiA port city full of history and cultural diversity, I tried street food that was extremely spicy, including fried chicken and local sweets. Every meal was satisfying and reflected the vibrant life of this city very well.
Besides that, I also visited ChennaiBackpacking Chennai, IndiaA city that perfectly blends ancient and modern elements. South Indian food here is famous for its spicy taste and intense spices. Walking through markets and restaurants along the Bay of Bengal coast made me realize the fascinating differences in food culture across Indian regions.
Feelings After Returning from India
I, mr.hotsia, want to say that although this trip was long and often required adapting to different environments, what impressed me most was the abundance of food and the sincerity of the people I met along the way. I still clearly remember riding a jeep from the airport to Darjeeling.Journey to DarjeelingRelying on local drivers for safety and convenience, during the trip I enjoyed mountain views and beautiful temples, truly impressing me with the diversity of northern India.
After passing through each city, I closely observed the local lifestyle, whether it was morning market walks, preparing food with ancient recipes, or eating with new friends met along the way. All were part of an experience that made this trip unique.
Satisfying Thai Appetite in India
Food remained the heart of this trip. I, mr.hotsia, chose to try many dishes similar to Thai food, such as spicy curry with familiar spices or biryani similar to our chicken biryani. Indian food is not only spicy but also deeply flavorful, using fresh local ingredients.
Sometimes I stopped at small mountain restaurants, like at Buddha Park in NamchiTraveling NamchiAs I mentioned before, I tried momo, a dish rooted in Tibetan and Himalayan cuisine. Its soft texture and slightly spicy dipping sauce warmed me well on cold mountain days.
Back to city food, I was impressed by Indian fried chicken in Bengaluruwhich I recorded on videowith its spicy flavor and juicy chicken, blending Indian and Thai food cultures perfectly. Especially when eaten with a fragrant plate of biryani, it was absolutely delightful.
Memories and Lessons from India
This trip taught me, mr.hotsia, that India is not just about grand tourist sites or temples, but a land of diverse flavors and colorful lifestyles. Every meal was a lesson in patience and openness to differences.
For those following me on hotsia.com, you know I focus on stories from real travelers, not just general info from books or the internet. I believe that experiencing and talking with locals adds value to travel, and India is one of the countries where I feel this most strongly.
For friends interested in experiencing northern India, I recommend preparing your mind for cultural, culinary, and travel differences. Keep an open mind and don't be afraid to try new things because every meal and every step on Indian roads is filled with unique stories.
