Eating Authentic Indian Chicken Biryani by Hand in Bengaluru, India
If you've ever heard of Bengaluru as the 'Silicon Valley of India,' you probably think of cutting-edge technology and high-tech offices of global IT companies. But for me, mr.hotsia, who traveled here, this trip was not about exploring the IT industry. What excited me and made me connect deeply with this city was its famous local food:Authentic Indian Chicken Biryaniwhich must be eaten by hand to truly experience the flavor and lifestyle of Bengaluru locals.
Bengaluru is located on the Deccan Plateau, over 900 meters above sea level. The weather here is cooler than many other cities in India. One thing I clearly noticed is the city's greenery filled with many large trees. Despite being a large, developed city, the streets and parks are clean and refreshing, reflecting a genuine care for the environment, unlike the usual image of big Indian cities I've seen elsewhere.
From my experience walking around local markets and small communities around the city, I felt that the food here is not only delicious but also rich in culture and interesting stories. Especially in the evening, some old markets have small chicken biryani stalls cooking fresh over open flames, with the aroma of spices filling the air. These stalls are not in malls or fancy tourist spots but small shops popular among locals.
Eating chicken biryani in Bengaluru is unique and charming because they strictly follow the Indian tradition of eating by hand. I, mr.hotsia, had to learn the proper way to pick up the soft, spice-infused chicken and rice according to local customs. Starting with a little use of the right hand to mix the biryani rice with the sauce soaked into the chicken before savoring it. The spices—cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, and turmeric—blend perfectly and leave an unforgettable taste.
I remember the place I ate was in the central market area of Bengaluru, not far from a park with large shady trees. The atmosphere was simple, but the place was packed with customers from office workers to students. People here don’t rush their meals but sit and chat happily, creating a warm and friendly scene very different from typical fast-paced city eateries.
For me, this trip to Bengaluru was not just about sightseeing but immersing in the local lifestyle and food, especially the chicken biryani, which is like the heart of this city. If anyone wants to know Bengaluru more deeply, I recommend walking the markets, strolling in the parks, and searching for authentic chicken biryani that must be eaten by hand—you won’t be disappointed.
