Indian sweets in Bengaluru, the tech city fragrant with spices
When talking about India, many people think of cultural diversity, history, and spicy food. But for me, mr.hotsia, visiting Bengaluru, or as Indians call it Bengaluru, is a journey full of stories of a modern big city life yet still infused with the charm of local cuisine, especially the Indian sweets here that captivated me endlessly.
Bengaluru is located on the Deccan Plateau in Karnataka state. It is a highly advanced city in terms of technology and startups. But one thing I find more interesting is the simple lifestyle and delicious local food. Even though it is a big city, the streets and markets are full of shops selling various Indian sweets fragrant with spices and coconut sugar.
Strolling through Bengaluru's Sweet Market: A Hub of Sweetness and Crunch
I, mr.hotsia, started the day by exploring a local market in Bengaluru, which is not a tourist market but a place where locals really shop. Here I tasted a variety of Indian sweets such asjalebicrispy fried sweets soaked in sweet syrup, gulab jamunsoft round balls in rose-scented syrup, andmysore paka soft sweet made from nuts and coconut sugar.
But what excited me the most was tryingladduround sweets made from chickpea flour and sugar mixed with authentic Indian spices. The sweetness of laddu combined with cinnamon aroma and the slight crunch of ground nuts creates a balanced flavor that makes you lose track of time. This is what I highly recommend friends visiting Bengaluru not to miss.
Life of Bengaluru People and Street Sweets
As I walked deeper into the typical residential areas of Bengaluru, the sweet aroma of Indian street sweets filled the air. Small shops using charcoal stoves and old copper pots fried sweets diligently. The shop owners told me that some recipes have been passed down through generations. Some shops use local ingredients like coconut sugar and nuts grown in Karnataka state.
While sitting and enjoying sweets with hot chai on a small bench by the roadside, I saw children playing and people heading to work. Everything blended perfectly. I believe that trying authentic Indian sweets in this atmosphere is a true experience of Bengaluru’s lifestyle that advanced technology cannot replace.
