Eating Indian Fermented Fish Rice with Tai Phake People, Tai Community of Namphake Village, Assam

When talking about India, many people probably think of big cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, or Chennai. But I, mr.hotsia, want to take you deep into the lifestyle and culture of a small community hidden in Assam state, in the northeast of India. This is the Tai Phake people of Namphake Village, surrounded by nature and lush green mountains. Here, local food perfectly blends Thai and Indian cultures. One dish that impressed me greatly is the unique "Indian Fermented Fish Rice" recipe of the Tai Phake people.

I traveled to Namphake Village after following news and YouTube videos. I found that the Tai Phake people still firmly preserve their culture and language despite living in India. This place is not just a simple living community but also holds ancient Thai traditions blended interestingly with Assam's local lifestyle.

The Flavor of Indian Fermented Fish Rice You Must Try

After tasting the fermented fish rice made by the Tai Phake people, I, mr.hotsia, must say, "The fermented fish aroma is strong but not overpowering." The spicy flavor is just right, mixed with hot steamed rice, local vegetables, and herbs grown within the community. It made me feel like eating home-cooked food from northeastern Thailand, but with a unique twist using local Indian ingredients and seasonings.

The homeowner told me that the fermented fish used in this rice is caught from a river near the village and fermented traditionally, passed down through generations. The fermented fish aroma is unique and distinctive. Additionally, the chili and herbs used are homegrown in backyard farms, making the flavor rich and fresh every day.

Lifestyle of Tai Phake People in Namphake Village

Walking around Namphake Village made me, mr.hotsia, feel like traveling back in time. The villagers still live simply, growing vegetables, raising animals, and fishing in nearby rivers amidst peaceful nature. Everywhere you look, you see green mountains and beautiful rice fields.

The Tai Phake people here speak their own Tai language and strictly observe traditional Thai-style festivals. I had the chance to join their annual merit-making event where they prepare fermented fish rice together. It was a warm moment of everyone gathering, cooking, and sharing happiness.

Connecting Indian Culture in Assam with the Tai Phake Community

Assam is a land rich in cultural and ethnic diversity. I, mr.hotsia, have had the opportunity to visit attractions such asChi River Tourwhere there are temples and large Buddha statues that evoke deep peace and faith. The Tai Phake community in Namphake also has strong ties to Buddhism, reflecting the fascinating cultural blend of this region.

Regarding travel, reaching Namphake Village requires help from local villagers and a four-wheel-drive vehicle because the mountain roads are quite challenging. But once you arrive, all fatigue disappears due to the charm of nature and warm people.

If you want to experience Thai culture in India, don't miss Namphake Village in Assam.

For travelers who love uniqueness and want to experience authentic Thai lifestyle abroad, the Tai Phake community in Namphake is a destination you shouldn't miss. The Indian fermented fish rice here is not just food but a gateway to learning about culture, living, and the relationship between Thailand and India from a perspective never seen before.
