The ancient Thai language of the Tai Phake people in Namphake Village, Assam, India

I, mr.hotsia, recently had the chance to travel and experience the lifestyle of the Tai Phake people in Namphake Village, Assam, India. This is one of the communities that impressively preserves the ancient Thai language and traditional culture, despite being thousands of kilometers away from their homeland in Thailand.

Namphake Village is located in Assam, a state in northeastern India. This place is not just an ordinary community but is considered the “origin” of the Tai Phake language and culture that has been passed down for generations. I, mr.hotsia, traveled here with curiosity to experience the ancient Thai language still used daily, the delicious local food, as well as ceremonies and lifestyles that blend Indian and Thai influences harmoniously.

Journey to Namphake Village with a Feeling of Time Travel

Traveling to Namphake Village is not easy as it requires passing through mountainous and rural routes in Assam. I, mr.hotsia, chose to use local transportation familiar with these routes. I arrived at the end of winter when the weather was cool and the sky clear. The village surroundings remain natural, with green rice fields and mountains covered in light mist.

The village atmosphere reminded me of ancient sites and traditional lifestyles rarely seen today. Most villagers still wear traditional clothing reflecting Tai Phake identity. Hearing their conversations, I could hardly believe the language spoken was the ancient Thai language still actively used in India.

Living Ancient Thai Language in Assam

The Tai Phake language is an ancient Thai language well preserved and passed down through generations. I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to talk with the elders of the community. They shared that although they have lived in India for hundreds of years, the Thai language and culture remain a strong bond and a source of pride in their roots.

Besides the language, traditional folk songs and performances continue to appear in various village festivals. I, mr.hotsia, participated in local festivals featuring Thai-style performances and tasted local dishes made from regional ingredients such as sticky rice with grilled pork and spicy curry with unique herbs, conveying a rich Thai flavor that never fades.

Simple Yet Charming Daily Life

In Namphake Village, I, mr.hotsia, walked through a small community market filled with fresh local produce, including vegetables, fruits, and traditional snacks. Interestingly, many shops display signs in the ancient Thai language, showing their dedication to preserving language and culture in daily life.

The villagers still practice traditional agriculture, such as rice and local herb cultivation. They also raise fish and small animals in ponds behind their homes. The village atmosphere is peaceful and warm, embodying a true rural community. I, mr.hotsia, felt as if I entered a world where time slows down and deep human connections flourish.

Connecting with India and Continuing the Journey

After spending a few days in Namphake Village, I, mr.hotsia, explored other areas in Assam and nearby regions. Assam offers diverse cultures and interesting landscapes, such as visiting local markets or other indigenous communities, each with unique and impressive characteristics.

For travelers interested in deep Indian travel experiences, I, mr.hotsia, suggest diverse and fascinating trips in India, such asTraveling to Techiin Sikkim, another destination where I experienced the beauty of nature and Buddhist culture.
