Riding the Metro in New Delhi with mr.hotsia

When talking about New Delhi, the capital city of India, many might think of chaos, traffic jams, dust, and scorching heat. But for me, mr.hotsia, New Delhi is an interesting city full of unique vibrant life. Traveling in a big city like this, riding the Metro is one of the most convenient ways and offers a real chance to experience the local lifestyle.

I started my trip in New Delhi by taking the Blue Line Metro from Rajiv Chowk station, which is a central connecting point. This spot is bustling with people from all directions gathering to commute to work, school, or visit tourist attractions. Riding the Metro in New Delhi is more convenient and faster than traveling by road, which is often congested during rush hours.

Along the Metro route, I saw students, businesspeople, and locals dressed in various styles. The trains are clean and air-conditioned. Despite the hot city weather, the Metro feels comfortable and safer than expected. There are clear station signs and announcements in both English and Hindi, making it easy for foreigners like me to travel.

Interesting stops along the Metro route

One station that impressed me wasJama Masjidnear the Jama Masjid mosque, the oldest and largest mosque in India. I walked a short distance from the station and experienced the ancient Islamic architecture, the sound of prayers, and the atmosphere of the old market filled with shops selling spices, clothes, and local food.

Then, I changed lines atChandni Chowkwhich is one of the oldest and liveliest commercial districts in New Delhi. Here, you can find street food and authentic Indian dishes like Pani Puri, Jalebi, and a variety of sweets. I tried them and must say the flavors were delicious and spicy, perfect for those who love bold tastes like me.

There are also souvenir shops and colorful handwoven fabrics, ideal for tourists looking for gifts to take home.

Learning about life through city travel

Riding the Metro in New Delhi is not just about transportation but also a chance to deeply learn about the lifestyle of the city's people. I noticed a diverse range of people, including office workers, elderly running errands, and schoolchildren laughing and chatting happily.

Although it is a densely populated city, most people respect the rules for boarding and exiting the Metro and keep the stations clean. I also had opportunities to chat and exchange with locals, which helped me understand their culture and way of life better.

Tips for riding the Metro in New Delhi

For tourists planning to ride the Metro in New Delhi, I recommend getting a Smart Card for convenient and quick boarding without the need to buy single-journey tickets. Be prepared for rush hours when the trains are very crowded.

Also, keep your valuables safe as some stations can be crowded. However, I found that overall, the security system of the New Delhi Metro is good, with staff always on duty.

Summary of experience from mr.hotsia

This Metro trip in New Delhi was an eye-opening experience for me. A city often seen as chaotic turned out to be convenient and fascinating when using public transport properly and walking to experience the real local life.

I, mr.hotsia, invite everyone to experience New Delhi in a unique way: ride the Metro, visit old markets, taste local food, and learn about the city's diverse culture fully, in a way that solo travel usually doesn't show in typical tours.
