Explore street food in New Delhi with mr.hotsia

New Delhi, the capital of India, is a destination mr.hotsia never misses when visiting the Indian subcontinent. This time, I planned to explore markets and street food stalls, commonly known asStreet Foodwhich is truly the heart of Indian food culture.

Walking through the narrow alleys of Old Delhi, you will smell spices and feel the lively crowd gathering to find delicious food. I remember my first meal wasChaata snack full of sour, sweet, and salty flavors mixed with the fresh aroma of vegetables and herbs. The taste of tamarind chutney blended with nuts and tomatoes made me walk back again to order more.

Besides Chaat, the Indian breadPav Bhajiwas another dish mr.hotsia loved. Served hot with spiced mashed vegetables, paired with buttery fragrant bread to dip in, every bite was full and satisfying. Plus, it’s budget-friendly, perfect for backpackers.

Chandni Chowk area in New Delhi is a must-visit street food hub. Here, mr.hotsia triedParathacrispy on the outside and soft inside flatbread with various fillings from potatoes and tomatoes to cheese and chopped vegetables. The well-marinated spices made every bite rich and unforgettable.

If you have followed my trips toBengaluruyou know I love full-flavored Indian food, and New Delhi did not disappoint. Here I tastedKebabsgrilled to a fragrant perfection, richly spiced with authentic Indian seasonings, served with fresh onions and spicy dipping sauces.

Another memorable experience for mr.hotsia was tryingJalebia crispy fried sweet that I really enjoyed. Jalebi is circular layered fried dough soaked in sweet syrup. The first bite reveals a crispy exterior and soft interior combined with gentle sweetness, instantly energizing me after a day of food exploration.

Eating street food in New Delhi is not just about taste but also an opportunity to closely experience the local lifestyle. mr.hotsia enjoys chatting with vendors and hearing their stories. Sitting on the roadside with small plates, I learned that love for food and sharing is the core of authentic Indian culture.

Additionally, traveling in New Delhi is quite convenient for mr.hotsia, thanks to the metro system and tuk-tuks that quickly and enjoyably take you to various neighborhoods. I recommend starting from Old Delhi, then walking or taking tuk-tuks to other markets to try a variety of dishes.

If you want to dive deeper into India’s street food stories, I recommend watching the video I recorded inNew Delhi Street Foodto see vivid images and the atmosphere I truly experienced.

And if you want to experience more of India’s diversity, don’t forget to check outBackpacking Bengaluruwhere I detailed my experience eating authentic chicken biryani and fried chicken, or if you like seaside vibes, tryBackpacking Mumbaiwhich offers a variety of fresh seafood to taste.
