Thai People in India with Rare Traditional Kitchens

I, mr.hotsia, have had the opportunity to travel to India many times. One thing that impresses me and feels special every time is experiencing the lifestyle of the Thai community in India. Although their numbers are not large, they have preserved and passed down traditional kitchens that are now very rare to find.

Seeing the traditional kitchens of Thai people in India reminded me clearly of the traditional Thai kitchens back home. The fragrant aroma of Thai herbs remains in the ingredients and cooking methods that have not changed over time. I had the chance to talk with the older generation of Thai people there. They said that preserving and passing on this culinary wisdom is like preserving memories, becoming a thread that connects them to their homeland.

From my perspective, seeing these traditional kitchens means more than just cooking; it means witnessing a simple lifestyle deeply connected to traditional culture. Anyone who has followed my work knows I like to explore stories that are local, lively, and tangible rather than superficial tourism.

Travel and Atmosphere in India Related to This Story

I traveled through many cities in India, fromBengalurua technology city where the younger generation thrives, toMumbaia port city full of cultural diversity, andChennaithe capital of Tamil Nadu state, which remarkably preserves India's ancient history.

But what was unusual and interesting was that I found traditional Thai kitchens in India not in big cities or main tourist spots, but scattered in small communities that still live simply. To experience this, one must have enough intention and time.

The atmosphere in these traditional kitchens is filled with the aroma of Thai spices such as lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and dried chili, clearly different from typical Indian kitchens. Even though they are in India, the scent and flavor of Thai food still retain their charm and uniqueness completely.

Lifestyle and Food that Still Have Deep Roots

The traditional kitchens of Thai people in India are not just places for cooking but centers of family and community where everyone gathers to share stories and cook together using recipes passed down through generations. I tried many dishes that Thai people in India still make, such as sour curry, red curry, and sticky rice with coconut milk, which taste remarkably like the original recipes from home.

Additionally, I learned that ingredient selection in these traditional kitchens focuses on fresh produce and herbs, some of which are imported from Thailand or grown locally in the community, such as lemongrass, ginger, and holy basil. Despite the difficulties, they believe preserving the traditional flavors is more important than convenience in cooking.

Travel Connecting Experiences with Various Aspects of India

For those interested in experiencing this, I recommend traveling in India with an open heart and readiness to enter small communities beyond the main tourist spots, just as I shared inNam Chi Tripwhere tranquility and nature enrich the experience, or traveling in diverse big cities likeBengaluruwhere I tried authentic Indian chicken biryani and fried chicken at a local restaurant.

Seeing and experiencing the traditional kitchens of Thai people in India not only fills me with homesickness but also opens my perspective on the diversity and strong bonds of the Thai community abroad, who still firmly preserve their identity.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

I, mr.hotsia, want to say that the traditional kitchens of Thai people in India are another charm worth exploring and learning about. The simplicity yet depth in lifestyle and food flavors make me feel that even far from home, Thai identity remains in every dish, every aroma, and every word of the Thai people there without fading.
