Thai Family in the Ancient Thai Village in India

When talking about India, many people probably think of big cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, or Chennai. But for me, mr.hotsia, this trip explores another side that few talk about: the ancient Thai village in India, scattered in some areas of Assam state in the northeast of the country. The special thing here is that there is an ancient Thai community descended from true Thai ancestors dating back over 700 years.

This village is located in a quiet rural area, completely different from the image of India’s big cities. I arrived by local car, passing winding routes and very narrow dirt roads. When I first got off the car, I felt the scent of nature and the simple lifestyle of the people here. Most houses are built with bamboo mixed with earthen structures. Most villagers work in farming, rice cultivation, and traditional crafts passed down through generations.

What is interesting is that their language and culture still have unique characteristics, similar to ancient Thai language that is now rare to find. I had the chance to talk with a family who owns an old house. They told me their ancestors migrated from Lanna in Thailand and settled here hundreds of years ago. Although influenced by various local cultures, the Thai roots remain strong and are passed down through rituals, traditions, and cooking.

In this village, I tasted food that almost tastes like home, including sticky rice, herbal grilled chicken, and a special chili paste made from fresh chili from the backyard garden. It felt like sitting down to eat with family back home in northern Thailand.

Besides the similar food and lifestyle, I also joined a local festival held at a small village temple, featuring religious ceremonies blending Lanna Buddhism and Hinduism. There were prayers and folk performances that felt warm and sincere. The atmosphere was full of smiles and laughter from children running around.

Coming here reminded me of previous India trips, such as Bangalore, a tech city full of modernity and lush parks.Backpacking BangaloreThe places I visited gave a completely different feeling from this ancient village, but it shows that India is truly a diverse country with many dimensions.

If anyone is interested in seeing the lifestyle and culture of Thai people in India, I recommend planning a trip during the winter season because the weather is cool and comfortable, unlike the hot summer in big cities. Traveling here may not be as convenient as in major cities, but it is a very worthwhile experience for those who love learning about culture and local people.

For those who want to travel in northeast India and want to add a unique and special route, I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting this ancient Thai village in Assam, along with nearby attractions such asChi River Tourwhich features a large Buddha statue and beautiful temples to visit as well.

Finally, I would like to share a video I filmed in this village so everyone can experience the real atmosphere and see the life of the Thai family in India up close.Click to watch the video of the Thai family in the ancient Thai village in IndiaThen get ready to embark on this special experience yourself.
