Thai Language of the Thai Tribe in India: A Journey Following a Distant but Close Cultural Heritage

Many people may not have heard much about the “Thai tribe in India” because India is a country with vast cultural and linguistic diversity. However, as mr.hotsia personally experienced, the culture and language of the Thai people in India are among the fascinating and impressive stories worth exploring.

This trip was not intended to tour familiar big cities like Bengaluru or Mumbai but to delve deeply into the Thai tribal communities living in some parts of Northeast India. Here, a small group of Thai people still use ancient Thai language for communication and remarkably preserve their traditional way of life.

Exploring the Lifestyle and Thai Language in a Land Far from Home

Most Thai people in India reside in Assam state and nearby states, which are not far from places I have traveled to before.NamsaiA province with important religious sites such as the Samdruptse Statue or Buddha Park. The atmosphere here is surrounded by mountains and beautiful scenery. Another interesting aspect is the opportunity to talk with Thai people who still use Thai language in their daily lives.

The Thai language of the Thai people in India is not exactly the same as the central Thai language used in Thailand. It is influenced by local languages and is ancient, mixed with rare accents and vocabulary. As mr.hotsia, I had to listen carefully and patiently ask questions to not miss any details. Here, greetings and expressions sound warm like home but also carry unique characteristics that make you feel this is “Thai language passed down through time in a distant land.”

Food and Markets of the Thai People in India

Besides the language, the local food of the Thai people in India is equally interesting. What I enjoyed most was tasting biryani and dishes cooked with local spices combined with traditional Thai recipes, which differ from the typical Indian food familiar to Thai people from big cities like Bengaluru.Bengaluruor MumbaiMumbaiClearly

The local markets here are lively and full of diverse local products, including fresh vegetables, herbs, and handmade souvenirs by villagers. The market atmosphere is filled with conversations in local languages and old Thai language, which mr.hotsia felt like traveling back in time to the past of Thailand itself.

Traveling and Experiencing the Culture of the Thai Tribe in India

Visiting the Thai communities in India is not as easy as traveling to major cities in India. I recommend having a local guide or someone from the area to help navigate because many places are in remote areas and roads may not be as comfortable as in big cities. Additionally, you will learn to travel by various local transportations, including jeeps, taxis, or even walking into villages hidden in the mountains.

For those who have followed mr.hotsia’s trips, you might remember I shared a story about traveling to Darjeeling, which is not far from here. It is another interesting spot for those who want to experience the nature and cultural blend of Northeast India.Journey to DarjeelingIt is an experience I highly recommend because it offers peace and beauty rarely found in big cities.

Thoughts and Impressions from mr.hotsia

The language and culture of the Thai tribe in India deeply impressed mr.hotsia because it reflects the strength of a culture that can be preserved even over 1,000 kilometers away from home. Talking with the elders in the community reminded me of our hometown and the deep bond of language and culture that will never fade.

For travelers who want to open their hearts and step off the usual path, I recommend following my footsteps to experience the Thai people in India at least once. This is not just tourism but a true learning and understanding of the roots of Thai culture in a broader dimension.
