Thai Village in India: Temple Food That Showed mr.hotsia the Heart of the Tai Phake Community
Once during my trip, mr.hotsia in India, I met a Thai village in a distant land, yet with a heart as warm as home. This village is located in Assam state, where the Tai Phake people, or Thai in India, reside. I had the chance to closely experience their culture and way of life, especially on the day I ate temple food made by the hands of the Thai people in this village.
That morning, I traveled from a nearby town by local car. The scenery on both sides was full of green rice fields and lush green mountains contrasting with the bright sky. I arrived at a small, peaceful village, yet full of life from the sounds of people preparing food to offer at the village temple.
Thai Food in India: Familiar Flavors in a Faraway Land
What impressed me most was seeing the Tai Phake brothers and sisters still firmly preserving their Thai lifestyle and culture, even while living in India, a country with a completely different culture. That day, the villagers helped each other cook various Thai dishes to offer to the monks at the temple, including hot steamed rice, chili paste, stir-fried vegetables, and various fragrant curries that made my mouth water.
I had the opportunity to sit and eat temple food together with the villagers and monks, feeling warm as if I were back home. It was not just the familiar taste but also the deep meaning of living together and sharing in this community.
Village Temple: The Heart Center of the Tai Phake People
The temple in this village is not only a place for religious activities but also the community center where everyone gathers for various events, including merit-making ceremonies, traditional festivals, or communal feasts. I felt the bond and respect the villagers have for the temple, like it is their second home.
The atmosphere in the temple is simple but full of faith. The monks here act as spiritual mentors to the villagers, and on the day I visited, I saw monks having lunch closely with the villagers.
Connecting with India in Many Dimensions: From Bangalore to Assam
Although I have traveled to big cities such asBangalorewhich is the technology hub of India and experienced the fast-paced and modern city life, coming to the Tai Phake village in Assam this time gave a completely different feeling.
Assam is a state with cultural and religious diversity, where many foreign communities live together peacefully. Experiencing the lifestyle of the Thai people in this village showed me the diverse dimensions of India—not just the big cities or famous tourist spots but also small communities beautifully connecting Thai and Indian cultures.
Traveling with mr.hotsia: Not Just Seeing, But Eating and Experiencing
For me, mr.hotsia, a memorable trip is not just about photographing beautiful places or walking around the city but about experiencing the real way of life of the locals, eating the food they make, and exchanging life stories with them. That is what makes this trip meaningful.
I want to invite everyone who loves traveling to open your heart and visit these small communities, just like I visited the Tai Phake village in Assam. It will let you see India from a perspective most people never see and feel the warmth of people who have a Thai heart but also an Indian heart at the same time.
