Sate Kambing UBUD Goat Meat Satay Soup from Ubud, Bali

When talking about Bali, many people often think of white sandy beaches, blue sea waters, and rich Hindu culture. But for me, Mr.Hotsia, visitingUbud, Baliis about discovering another enchanting side of Bali. Besides the beautiful nature and temples, Ubud also offers local dishes that impressed me greatly, especially the “Satay Soup” or sate kambing here.

The satay or goat meat satay soup in Ubud is different from the satay we usually find on beaches or tourist towns in Bali because here they mainly use kambing meat, or goat meat. The soup poured or dipped with the satay is rich, balanced, not greasy or overly sweet, and has a fragrant spice aroma that is strikingly similar to the satay I once tasted in Medan, North Sumatra, which also has its own unique character. In the morning market of Ubud, I passed by a kambing satay stall where the owner was excited to welcome tourists. I tried the grilled meat pieces on charcoal skewers. The aroma of grilled meat mixed with authentic Balinese herbs made me forget the usual peanut sauce or sweet sauces I had before. The soup poured over the satay was rich, slightly spicy but not throat-burning, perfect for Bali’s humid weather and very comforting.

Atmosphere and Lifestyle in Ubud

Ubud is located in a mountainous and lush green forest area, creating a cool and comfortable atmosphere unlike the hot beaches in Kuta and Seminyak. Ubud is ideal for travelers who enjoy tranquility and want to experience authentic Hindu culture. There are many Hindu temples here, and locals still strictly observe rituals. I saw locals carrying offering baskets walking to temples in the morning—a simple yet powerful scene.

Traveling to Ubud was not difficult for me. I used services from Denpasar Airport, which is not far away. (For travel information from the airport to Bali city, clickRead More) Most travel within Ubud is by car or rented scooter, but for convenience and safety, I recommend renting a geared vehicle because Ubud’s roads have many hills and curves.

Kambing Satay Soup and Balinese Culture

The kambing satay in Ubud is special because it uses various spices such as turmeric, galangal, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves to marinate the meat before grilling. This makes the spice aroma deeply infused into the meat without the goat’s gamey smell that many fear. The soup poured over the satay is a special Balinese recipe called “soup,” which resembles a flavorful broth but is not too heavy with curry spices.

For Mr.Hotsia, eating kambing satay soup in Ubud is not just about food; it is about experiencing Balinese culture through this dish. I remember once sitting at a small roadside stall in the morning market, talking with the very kind owner. He told me this dish has been passed down for generations, is made by locals for special occasions, and even served as an offering to the gods.

Travel Tips and Additional Recommendations

Besides kambing satay in Ubud, I also visited the sacred water springs and witnessed Indonesian farmers planting rice by hand in the lush green fields. (Click to see the atmosphere of the sacred water springs in Balihereand the Indonesian farmershere) This experience made me love Bali even more.

Finally, if you want to experience the true essence of Bali beyond just beaches or famous tourist spots, Ubud and kambing satay are the choices Mr.Hotsia wants you to try at least once.
