Travel from Bali Denpasar Airport to the City

For those planning to travel to Bali on their own like mr.hotsia, I would like to share my direct experience from Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar Airport, located in the southern part of Bali Island. Bali is not just about beautiful beaches as many think; the waves here are actually very strong, directly influenced by the Indian Ocean, making it a paradise for surfers from many countries, especially Australia. But from my perspective as a traveler who enjoys culture and lifestyle, I prefer Bali for its rich Hindu religion and culture.

Denpasar Airport is located in Denpasar city, which is the main city and center of Bali province. Getting into the city from the airport is very straightforward. I recommend preparing your transportation in advance, such as booking a taxi or shuttle via apps, because the airport offers various taxi services, but pre-booking or app booking is more cost-effective and safer, especially if traveling at night or arriving late.

It takes about 15-20 minutes from the airport to the heart of Denpasar city, depending on traffic conditions, which is not far. However, if you plan to go to other major tourist spots like Ubud or Kuta Beach, you should allow extra travel time because Bali is an island with main roads connecting points slowly and windingly. But the scenery along the way is full of lush greenery and unique Balinese temples.

For those flying with low-cost airlines such as AirAsia or other options like Lion Air, Jetstar, Citilink, or Garuda Air, which I have used, I found that each airline offers competitive prices and easy online booking in advance. Regarding airport tax, there is an additional charge of about 500-600 baht per flight, which is normal for airports in Indonesia.

Also, if you plan to continue traveling to other Indonesian islands like Jakarta or Sumatra, remember that domestic travel in Indonesia is very convenient with many low-cost airlines to choose from. Island ferry travel is also an interesting experience, especially the ferry crossing to Bali from Banyuwangi city at the southern tip of Java Island.

Balinese Lifestyle and Culture Felt Right from the Airport

As soon as I stepped out of Denpasar Airport, the atmosphere of Balinese Hindu culture was very clear. It’s not just the scent of incense but also the small shrines placed around the airport, roads, and shops. Balinese people place offering trays in front of houses, on streets, or even in restaurants to show respect to their gods according to their beliefs. This charm makes Bali different from other places in Indonesia and is the reason why I, mr.hotsia, truly love coming here.

Balinese people generally speak English well, especially the younger generation working in the tourism business. I recommend preparing some simple Indonesian words for shopping or asking prices at markets or local shops, which will make communication much smoother. If you are not confident in English, using gestures is also okay.

If you want to truly experience Balinese lifestyle, I recommend taking a taxi or shuttle toDenpasar Morning MarketThis market is full of local fresh produce, exotic fruits, as well as local foods and incense used by locals for shrine offerings. It’s a great starting point to get to know Bali deeply.

Accommodation and Preparation Before Exploring Bali

During my 6-night stay in Bali, I chose to stay at NAKULA FAMILIAR Inn located in Denpasar city, close to the airport and convenient for traveling to various tourist spots. Choosing accommodation in the main city like this is suitable for those who want to explore deeply without changing places often in Bali. There are also accommodation options in other areas like Ubud, which I have recommended in another article.Ubud City, BaliFor those who enjoy natural atmosphere and rich culture

Don’t forget to prepare some cash in rupiah because some shops and services still do not accept credit cards. If you want to withdraw cash, there are many banks supporting VISA cards here. It’s recommended to exchange money in the city or airport for convenience.

Summary of Travel Experience and Tips from mr.hotsia

Overall, traveling from Denpasar Airport to Denpasar city and other points on Bali Island is very convenient and easy. For tourists traveling to Bali independently, planning accommodation and transportation in advance will definitely make your trip smoother.

Bali is not only about the sea and surfing waves but also has a fascinating Hindu culture, friendly people, and surprisingly delicious local food.
