Pakse Lamvong Bar: A Night of Dancing Exhaustion with mr.hotsia
If you visit Pakse, the capital of Champasak Province, Laos at night, be sure to save some free time for an experience that's not easy to find—joining the lively atmosphere of the Lamvong bar here. This is one of the deep charms of southern Laos that I, mr.hotsia, have personally experienced and want to share straightforwardly.
The Lamvong bar I’m talking about is called “Pakse Lamvong Bar,” and the place I visited is named"Than Tee"(pronounced Ta-na-tee) This bar is located near the second kilometer marker, close to the bus station from Chong Mek, right by the Mekong River where you can clearly see the bridge connecting Thailand and Laos. The riverside atmosphere at night here is peaceful, mixed with music and dim lights, making you feel like time stops for a moment.
For those who have seen the movieSabaidee Luang Prabangparts one and two, you might be somewhat familiar with the image of Lamvong bars in Laos. But for me, mr.hotsia, this was a great opportunity to experience the real atmosphere in Pakse’s unique version, especially the “Badsalop” dance, which many might not have heard of or be sure how to spell. Some call it “Badsalop” or “Baslop,” but I use this term because it reflects the fun and unity of people dancing together until exhausted.
Inside “Than Tee,” there is a live band playing electronic keyboard music. The music is traditional Lao Lamvong rhythm that makes everyone in the bar, locals and foreign tourists alike, get up and dance joyfully. At one point, I saw some guests invited to sing on stage. The songs played were not only traditional Lamvong tunes like “Sao Chiang Kwang” but also modern Thai songs. This place is an interesting cultural bridge between Laos and Thailand.
Easy to Get There, Close at Hand
If you stay around the Sabaidee 2 area or well-known hotels like Tha Luang Hotel, Saeng Arun Hotel, or Lanna Hotel, getting to “Than Tee” bar is very easy. A tuk-tuk will take you there for about 10,000 kip per person. For those who prefer freedom, renting a motorcycle is also convenient because the bar is nearby and locals can guide you to the Lamvong bar.
The bar closes around 11 PM, so if you want to enjoy fully, plan your time well because after that the police start patrolling. This is important to know for nightlife in Pakse.

Real Experience from mr.hotsia
I remember the first time I walked into “Than Tee” bar, feeling drawn into a world of music and rhythm that made my heart beat along. It’s not just sitting and watching; you have to dance, move, and join the fun with others—an experience you won’t find in ordinary bars.
At one point, I spoke with the owner who said this Lamvong style is part of a cultural heritage passed down and a way to keep young people proud and loving their roots, even though modern songs are mixed in sometimes.
So I recommend that if you come here, don’t miss the chance to experience this atmosphere at least once in your life. It’s not just entertainment but a lifestyle and warm friendship from southern Laos.
