Laos Attapeu Province
Project gen by hotsia
Attapeu is the southernmost province of Laos bordering Vietnam and Cambodia. Few Thai travelers visit here, but some do. I once read online that over 50% of the population in Attapeu are Vietnamese. Attapeu is a place to visit mainly when passing through Vietnam's Kontum and Gia Lai provinces to make the trip worthwhile. However, if you drive yourself and explore several places in Attapeu, it is also worth it. I traveled back from Kontum, Vietnam and stopped to visit Attapeu. Car rental services are available in Attapeu town.
I just strolled through the morning and evening markets and walked along the Sekong River. Attapeu is where two rivers meet: the Setaman (Setaman) River, which flows from Vietnam through Dak Cheung, joins the Sekong River here. The view is beautiful. You can enjoy walking along the Sekong River in Attapeu. Another recommended spot is the lively morning market where locals sell various colorful fish from the Sekong River. Regarding accommodation, Attapeu has many options. Air-conditioned rooms cost per night.
Fan rooms cost 200-300 baht per night. Accommodation prices are considered expensive compared to other places. I stayed at Phuthong Guesthouse for per night. For food, I usually ate at a Lao restaurant opposite Wat Mai. If very hungry like me, you can buy fish from the market and have them fried for you. Fried 'pla na noo' (mouse fish) is delicious. This restaurant serves tasty food and was once visited by former Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai during his trip to Vietnam, as seen in the photo on the wall. mr.hotsia December 2010 Sekong River flowing through Attapeu town.
