At night, watching the lights on the Thai side, when comparing, I think Tha Khaek town in Kham Muang Province looking toward Nakhon Phanom is more beautiful than other towns.
The sky was beautiful on the day I came. There are temples and stupas. Other places like Huai Sai looking toward Chiang Khong, Pak San looking toward Bueng Kan, Vientiane looking toward Sri Muang Mai, or Savannakhet looking toward Mukdahan are not as beautiful as Tha Khaek because those places are either too far or have islands in the middle of the Mekong River. That's why I had to write this story. At Kham Khong in the evening, there are food stalls where you can sit and enjoy the view as shown in the picture above. The sunset is not this beautiful every day but it is definitely beautiful.
There are many restaurants in Tha Khaek that serve Thai food, so no worries about eating. At night, there is a riverside nightclub along the Mekong River that closes at midnight. It is not very big and plays beautiful Lao music. Tha Khaek has no curfew. If you come back late after partying, the police won't arrest you, unlike Pakse which has a 11 PM curfew and Savannakhet which has a 11:30 PM curfew. Mr.Hotsia came in the evening to watch the beautiful sunset and became fascinated by the view of Nakhon Phanom from Tha Khaek.
So I rode a motorbike out to drink Lao beer alone while watching the view of Nakhon Phanom, then went to listen to music at a nightclub on a raft by the Mekong River. Listening to Lao music while looking toward Thailand creates an amazing atmosphere.
